I have started by stripping out the interior to prep the car for paint.

Ive been extremely lucky so far the floor pan was immaculate. I got in contact with John from Gunderoo and after some convincing he kindly agreed to help me with the removal of the engine and transportation to his friends place for a complete bare metal engine out restoration. Thank you so much John

I went home satisfied, and returned early the next morning to free the engine and gearbox. With the assistance of some helpful hands from Johns family the car was loaded up on the trailer destined for paint.

The plan is to keep it 100 percent original, like it came out of the factory.

I was thinking about putting in a LSD in it, but unsure. Im unsure about the pros and cons. Are there any engine mods I should consider.

LSD is only pro... Some would argue the best mod you can do

The std diffs can crap themselves at any moment and installing an LSD gives you a whole bunch of balance and changes the car totally. Get Adrian to build you a gearbox, install a Quaife and get ready for big smiles....

It might be worth it for the piece of mind, but i realy want to keep the ride as was intended. It would suck if the diff was to go and damage the rebuilt gearbox.

Installing an LSD takes nothing away from the legendary 205 handling. I'm of the opinion that they should have been standard, but opinions are just opinions. If you diff lets go I'm fairly sure you gearbox wont get cop and damage.

My friend had a lovely blue Miami GTi. His diff exploded at 20km/h whilst creeping out of Westfield Parramatta, taking the entire gearbox case with it. Quite spectacular really.

    Thanks Adrian,

What are the benifits of changing the diff ratios from 3.6 to 3.9, 4.06 or even 4.4?

I wouldn't go to 4.06 or 4.4 on your car. The Miami I spoke of was upgraded to 3.94:1 during the rebuild. This is same gearing as used in the 75kW S1 and S2 GTi's. The car accelerates a lot better in any gear. Whilst RPM at 100 km/h increases from 3100 to 3300, there is no change to fuel economy. I highly recommend it.
