    Default RX4 scenic gearbox swap

Hi has anyone fitted a 2wd scenic gearbox to a rx4 scenic and just left the rear drive shaft out, i know the clutch is cable on the 2wd and hydraulic on the 4wd, and that the left hand top mount is different, what other differences are there? will it bolt to the engine? any problems with starter motor mounting? all help appreciated

Balki, thats so common that I warn people when buying RX4's to look under to make sure there's a tailshaft.

Its all bolts up without a problem, you'll need to use the 2wd thrust bearing and clutch cable and the gearbox mount.
RX4 and 2WD use the same clutch but with a different thrust bearing.

    David,

    JC5 gearbox?

so presume you just take the tailshaft off, use existing driveshafts.
Different bearing, gear box with mounts and clutch cable.
Are all RX4's cable clutch or some hydraulic?

Must mean those RX4 boxes are not worth fixing?

The car we just bought has a serious gearbox crunchy noise when you move it, now locked in gear but no oil on the ground.
How do these idiot owners do this??
