Yeah why not. Sounds like a good idea to me. Just what Aussiefrogs needs is a comunity Delahaye.

A 1961 Fregate? The last Fregate cars were sold in 1960 and these cabriolets were built to order so to have one built at the end of the base cars life and when the design of the base vehicle was already dated is unusual. Having said that you can have the others, being a one eyed Renault enthusiast I'll take the Fregate thanks.

Obviously it took 12 months to build it.

Yes the Fregates Beautiful but the Dalahaye would make a better tow car.

Photos of a similar car being restored in the Renault Classic Workshop. Note strengthened sills. These cars were available through your local Renault dealer but first you bought a top of the range sedan and then Renault sent it to the coach builder. It was covered by a Renault warranty. They were very expensive. The later model cars had a chrome fin to try and update them a bit but the car for sale doesn't appear to have them. The car being restored does and they can just be seen in amongst the bits and pieces yet to be assembled.

Wow what a place. That would be my dream job. Restore old Renaults all day and get paid for it.

Is the wheelbace on the Fregate shorter or does it just look like it because the doors are longer?

Yes a great place to work but I guess it's like most professionals, they want to do something different on weekends like play golf. As far as the length of the car goes, I do have Renault factory documents that explain what is done to the cars but I would have to translate as a quick glance through doesn't tell me much. My French is zero really. But I have side photos and they do look shorter. I might try and scale them against my sedan. I did take a photo under the car but unfortunately only looking forward I was more interested in strengthening that they may have done. This is the second time I have been to the workshop and failed to take the right photos even though I thought I took a lot.

Found it, for a 4 seat version "empattement" is 2.8 metres the same as a standard sedan. There was also 2/3 seat versions on offer not sure that they altered the wheel base though.

There was 7 made by Chapron the last in 1959. 70 made by Letourneur et Marchand. The last was probably made in 1958. These are the cars that were made for Renault but perhaps there were others made separately.

It is very nice sunroof, but I'd still rather the Delahaye as I'm not one eyed.
