    Default It's Alive.....

The Frankenstein Fuego Turbo is nearly go...

Took the car for a quick drive today (just a few k's as it has no front bumper on it) with the 2.2 fitted (9.9:1 Comp) and to quote the old 1980's BMW M5 advert - The Fuego needs a Turbo like the Concorde needs a Propeller...

It really gets up and boogies with the high comp motor on straight LPG, feels like it has 25hp more than the old motor, yet idles nicely and starts from cold easier.

I think the slightly bigger capacity (and probably more restrictive temporary pod filter) seem to draw the LPG through the TB easier.

The power steering feels fine (and quieter without the hissing pump against the firewall).

NVH with the VL Commonwhore engine mounts appears pretty similar (I'll wait till the exhaust is done before I commit to that as it has a - cough - 'slight' leak atm

It's off to the exhaust place tomorrow arvo to get the new exhaust and the intercooler piping done - should be back on Friday .

Hopefully do a bit of a rough tune over the weekend and then get it on the Dyno at some stage next week so I can get a better tune and slowly turn the wick up (or blow something up )

I'm baffled as to why this thread has- thus far - been so short on reactions. It's not like the subject to hand is a recent or simple endeavour.

    Its simple.....fueogo's are for loners.

You want a thread with 50 people saying owww...ahhhhhhh , then you need to post up about your D special, but the fuego gang are a silent breed, I've discovered.. Thats not to say we/they dont read the threads, you just dont get a whole lot of feed back.

Having said that, Good luck with the last bits, mistareno.

I think Renault owners in general just sit back quietly and say "he's mad"

Luckily we all know mistereno the creater of FrankenFuego really is mad

Be patient, he's probably gone to bed for the first time in 3 weeks so give him a chance to wake up.

Well, I got the car back from the exhaust place. Ended up going with a 2.5 inch mandrel bend system.

Seems to clear everything ok, I haven't heard any banging or knocking yet.

Has one muffler tucked up in the back so there is no tailpipe or muffler visible from behind .

Got the intercooler piping all made up out of mandrel stainless, it's pretty short, so the weight wasn't to much of an issue.

Got the BOV and balance pipe (for the gas converter) fitted into the pipe before the intercooler. The theory amongst the Ford guys running Gas Research is that you can run the car quite lean on cruise and then use the slight pressure drop across the intercooler to act as a rising rate pressure regulator.

Drove the car home from the exhaust place but I haven't given it any tuning for the boost and I don't have a boost gauge fitted yet so I took it really easy.

From the odd squirt I did give it though, it seems to go quite well .

I'm going to laugh if you chuck a boost gauge on it and it's only running 2psi at the moment............................... And you think it goes well enough now

Woohoo just had a spin in FrankenFuego and Shane I wouldn't bother dusting off the 2cv if I were you.

Although it would make one of those Top Gear drags where one car goes over the finish line and the camera waits and waits, and waits till the second car chugs past. Problem is I doubt there would be enough film to do it.
