Default Sierra 1.4L piston liner kit

G'day guys, just wondering if anyone knows where I can source a piston/liner kit for a 1.4L Virage motor that preferably won't take a long time to get ? Apparently Caravelle and French Connection have nil stock at the moment.

Try Jacques in the States; I know that he's rear-engines but given the Alliance/Encore (9/11) it's worth a go. Also, there was a thread a while ago about ones from South Africa. Peter

    Hi John,
Yes I have had good results from Jacques. Also Jacques Lardinois in Belgium where you can order in English.

So, am I to take it that they do expect to get some in? Peter

Yes Peter, Ken from Caravelle said he wasn't expecting his shipment for a month or two.
The machine shop is wondering how different the R16 kit is to the R12 1.4L kit. I only had a quick look before packing the wrong kit back up & giving it back but from a glance, the liners look too long. Does anyone know exactly how different the kits are ? I haven't even checked if the pistons are similar or not. I'd just prefer the right kit personally but seems to be a bit of a challenge to find at the moment. Haven't had a chance to ring Simons referral yet but their website doesn't appear to show piston/liner kits.
    cheers,

    John

Maybe not the most helpful answer, but had you considered 1289? Not that much smaller.....

The 1470cc Renault 16 kit has the same 76mm bore as the 1.4 motor, but that is where the similarities end. The 16 (1470cc & 1565cc (77mm bore)) liners have the paper (Excelnyl) liner seals, (same as the 1289cc 12 motor) the 1.4 has o-ring liner seals.

The base locating diameter of the 1.4 liner is 80.6mm, the 1470cc liner base diameter is 82mm, the 1565cc liner base diameter is 82.5.

So the 1.4 and 16 kits are not interchangeable.

Thanks so much for your priceless Renault wisdom Simon. I wasn't at all keen for the machine shop to modify the R16 kit to suit, and your facts just reinforce those thoughts. I'll hang out for the right kit
    cheers,

    John

I would've thought you could've had one of the kits from South Africa in your hands long ago had you taken the initial advice. Wasn't it your post looking for the same thing and someone (ex SA from NZ) posted details of where to get them from? If not, do a search in here.

I've bought parts from all over the world without too much drama before. A week is the longest I've had to wait in most cases.

If you are interested the company's name is Alert Engine Parts, check out their website and pick the Johannesburg branch and go to sales. My mates name is Eikie Kotze and he quoted me the prices.
It is almost impossible to talk to him personally, his is on phone sales which is high pressure,I hope you come right with the web sales.
I must say the price could be affected as I anticipated a lot more interest in this, little dissapointing.

    Cheers Harry

    Hi Harry,

I e-mailed Alert Engine Parts for a price, availability and whether they would post to Australia a 1397 piston/liner kit and the response from Marlene Nel was "Most of our parts are imported from overseas, so we do not sell to overseas market". Do you have any tips on achieving a better outcome from them ?
    cheers,

    John

    Hi John,

Rather dissapointed with their actions, Will contact my mate tonight to see if there are any other JHB suppliers that are willing to assist.
Price could be a affected, but the AUS$ is probably still 1 AUS$ to about SA Rand 7.00

    Hi John,

Made contact with my mate, his name is Eikie Kotze and his e mail is [email protected]
He says you must send him an email to confirm what you require and he can then quote you a price and availabilty and you can arrange
collection and payment which is done through DHL only.
    Hope this helps

DHL is a popular international courier company.
Sounds like they are wanting you to organise shipping (ie you organise DHL to go to their site and pick the goods up under your "booking" rather than have them pay and organise shipping, then charge you as part of the invoice.

    Hi John

No worries mate, yes DHL is the international freight couriers that handles world wide freight, yes and I was surprised too,but thats how it is done these days, they handle the parts payment as well, which means you could just go an pick it up from them and pay or perhaps they want payment in advance,I don't know. They are right next to Perth international airport.I am sure they can even delivered to your home but it all ads to to costs.
Alert handles all engine parts for all engines were possible(bearings and gaskets)
Hope you come right and get another Renault or Frog on the road.

    Hi Harry,

The machine shop after all that has just managed to get a Mahle piston/liner kit. I haven't heard back from Eikie yet, but i'll e-mail him again to let him know it's all sorted. Would have been interesting to know how much they were going to turn out to be from South Africa though.

Thanks again for your help Harry
    cheers,

    Hi John,
I am happy for you, Mahle is a very very good brand. When Eikie comes back to you, just ask him for the quote with DHL just to have a comparison, should be interesting, but tell him your order came hrough, we don't want to [email protected]@ him off,we could need him again in futue.

    Cheers Harry
