Default clio radio problem and auto light

g'day guys. just purchased a 02 clio expression auto this week. running well (tick).

the radio, i understand from the intructions has this power on thing where by if kyou turn it on while the car is off it stays on for 20 mins, beeps and then shuts down if you dont press the power button again... all normal.
My problem is that it does this even when the car is running. I get 20 mins down the road and the stereo beeps at me. it shuts down after a few secs if i dont press the power button. why is it so? I had a look at the battery and noticed its getting at bit old, could this be the problem?

    problem #2
in the mornings driving to work i notice the auto light on the dash comes on. It doesnt seem to affect driving at all but i generally pull over, turn the car off and pull the key out then restart the car and it disappears for the rest of the day. it like it happens when the cars transmission is cold and once its warmed up its ok... gear shifts appear normal at all times. read tfm and it doesnt really tell me much. any clues as to what this is? what parts need to be replaced if any? i have plans to take it to a mechanic (i have a reliable one) in 2 weeks and the car has 12 months of warranty thru AWN so i am not too worried. I also plan on contacting the (non-renault) dealer i bought it from. is there any urgency here?

thanks in advance for replies and advice.

thanks for the reply. i did some research and i have seen mixed responses. and i expected that as people tend to only complain online, you rarely ever see pll go online to wax lyrical about their wonderful warranty claim (i did find some tho).

at this stage i am more interested about the problem the car has, i will deal with warranties if or when the time comes.

so you dont know whats wrong with the car?

this is what i am interested in.
if the warranty comes good than good, if it doesnt then i have to fork out the bucket loads of $$$. I realise this.

In the event of needing a new gear box and I get no love from the dealer or warranty, approx how much do you think I'd be hit up for new and/or reconditioned? Not expecting cheap so I won't be shocked...

Calling dealer and warranty co tomorrow. Probably need to go to peter warren or corban to get codes checked for auto light... From research most likely gb, but could be hydrolic distr. No idea on costs.
Seems a solid car other than this. Shame.

...its good to be back in a French car tho after the astra. Had a Citroen b4.

    Ok got codes.
    #218 malfunction switch intermediate pos
#224 final drive solenoid valve circuit short
#229 pressure modulator solenoid valve circuit short.

The last 2 are the problem I'd say. U guys got any idea how much to fix? Ultratune (where I got the codes from) say IRS beyond their expertise. Will Prolly get quotes on Monday. I'll keep yas informed

    Check your battery.

Low voltages do strange things to computers, relays and sensors.

I would also check the radio fuse. In the Megane, if it's blown, the radio functions but shuts down in the same way - the fuse is shared with the cigarette lighter and climate control in the Megane too, so that's another clue perhaps!

Europa, you are brilliant man! who'd think of checking fuses when buying a car...

ready to laugh? THERE WAS NO FUSE!!!

    ROFL
had a spare 10a laying around and viola! fixed.

now i just have the solenoid/battery problem. i wonder if it was related (rollsyeyes)

Glad that solved it - it had me pretty confused for a while (would have thought if the fuse was blown, the radio wouldn't have functioned at all!)

Probably wouldn't hurt to confirm the other fuses are present and correct!

code came up for speed sensor again. dood reckons this is the problem and is sourcing the part from renault.
this expensive? (cheaper than a gear box.)

Probably not many following this but here's an update.

First codes to come up were solenoids. Cleared.
    Second the speed sensor. Cleared
    Third, speed sensor again. Cleared.
    Forth (today) solenoids again. Cleared.

My auto tranny guy has sugested I duck down to the Renault dealer in Wollongong and see if the trannys prog needs flashing. He was setvto replace the speed sensor but after different codes today he though it might not solve the problem. He said its not a short as this would give an over current code and mine was a no current, suggesting a bad connection.

Btw, when the tranny light comes on it doesn't seem to effect driving.
It also resets after I turn the engine off, remove the key and restart.

    Baffled we are.
