Default Parts for R4 - Europe or Australia???

I need some pistons, rings, gaskets etc for an R4.
Are there any dealers in Australia or is it best to source them through Europe???

I'm well out of the current loop for R4 parts suppliers, I've been lucky my car has been reliable since it was rebuilt. Firstly try the Australian suppliers like French Connection or Caravelle Imports, both in Melbourne. Given that running R4's are thin on the ground in AUS, they may have some parts they would love to shift at a good price.

Secondly, before pestering anyone for parts make doubly sure you know exactly what you want. With the R4 there are a few permutations for engine parts, depending on its age, and if it is possibly a late model private import. Early motors have copper liner seals with 14mm diameter floating gudgeon pins, later motors have paper liner seals with 16mm diameter gudgeon pins. Before ordering you will have to make sure wherever you are ordering the parts from has what you want, to save having to return incorrect parts. The engine type can be identified by reference to the plate riveted to the block that has details of the engine type (likely 800-01) and the engine serial number.

Oh yes get the specs right, I had fun and games ordering pistons, size all good, fitted an 800-01 motor but it was a pre 67 so gudgeons totally wrong, however try these guys, not cheap but after hunting around OS good to deal with local Adelaide mob,
