    will tomorrow ever come?

I think there is a minimum post count of something like 5, before you can post pics - check for details in the nav panel area.

Pix are up in "Cars for sale" now. Looks like a pretty straight, if slightly molested R8. Pretty complete with lots of stuff to go with it.

Funny mixture of stuff in the rear end. Early type exhaust manifold (they all crack but this one hasn't obviously done that yet) with R10-style water-heated choke and late type bumpers. Classic R8 1100 dashboard. Maybe R10 internal door panels.

No doubt Simon will give us the good oil on its provenance etc. I'd guess a 1965 car but the year hardly matters.

You'd want to reinforce the sunroof hole if that hasn't been done.

Good I live a safe distance from it. Could be a pretty good buy.

    Cheers

That looks like the R8 1100 that used to be owned by Bruce Porter, given that he passed away 22 odd years ago, a lot of bitumen is likely to have passed under its wheels. When Bruce had it, the rag-top sunroof was an old timber frame Webasto job in poor condition, he replaced the sliding top with the clip on cover that still seems to be on the car now. At that time, the car was Cosmic Blue in colour, the following owner then painted it beige. But I'm guessing a lot of other stuff would have changed on the car since then.

Simon, I wondered the same about the car. The sunroof Bruce fitted (himself if I remember correctly) was a second-hand Webasto off an E-type Jag if I recall correctly, with dramatic roof cracks sideways from the rear corners (hence my comment about reinforcement).

Bruce died just after we moved to Perth, which is indeed 22 years.

No doubt all will be revealed.

Good pick up Cabby. It sure looks like you got value for money with all the spares you got with the car. There looks like a fair bit of work to be done but hey, isn't that why we buy classic cars? A low mileage example is a rarity these days so enjoy the resto and the driving. Ownership of a collectible like the R8 is rewarding and fun.

I don't remember Bruce's roof being quite as wide, or so far forward...it was a pretty neat fit from memory.

I've had to use great self control on this one Cam, after looking for a reasonable R8 for ages I recently took possession of a beautiful little R10 with 56,000 miles on the clock. And SWMBO has threatened nothing less than a good crutching if I come home with another Renault so I'll reluctantly let this one slide. I can't afford to pay child support on four kids and play with old Renaults!!

    Hey, steady on you blokes!
It is an interesting prospect, I must say...but no, I'm happy with the 10 for now.
Interestingly, Bruce Porter was solely responsible for my Renault craze at the age of 16 (1966)...I worked a couple of days in his 'speed shop' and before long I had a 4CV and a S/H DG motor....the rest is history. That car was my first rally car.
I had no idea that he'd passed away.....22 years ago!

Phil - there are two threads (at least!). This one and another one (or two?) in the for sale section. One of the other threads in "for Sale" has the photos we are referring to in this thread.
