    Default The ultimate sleeper?

I was pondering the other day what would make the ultimate sleeper.

A car that went like a cut cat and handled well, yet looked like it shouldn't.

Then I had the little light globe go off above my head and this is what I saw....

Now before you reckon I've gone raving mad (which I have)

I reckon you could quite easily put this (and the associated 4WD gearbox and running gear):

    Into the space for this:

You should be able to get an easy 400hp from the Evo motor which would make a Scenic RX4 really boogie.

You can get RX4's with blown boxes for next to nothing these days, the evo and rx4 drivelines are quite similar in design and the engine is even in the correct orientation

    Evo Gearbox and driveline

    RX4 Gearbox and driveline

Plenty of space for the kiddies too as you snap their necks off on the way to the shops

What would be your ultimate sleeper?

Dimma in the UK did something similar, installing a Sierra Cosworth 4WD motor and running gear into a Clio 1 body.

Does it have to be of French origin?

There are several off-the-shelf sleepers already available.

I'm reluctant to mention them 'tho.

    What about a Toyota Caldina?
The Caldina is sports wagon. Based on a Toyota Avensis Verso platform with turbo 3S-GTE 2 litre motor.
191KW in 1400 kg odd. The GT4 is awd

All the work done for you. It looks like a people mover....

The Nissan equivalent, the Stagea is pretty good as well.

There was a Kangoo in one of the Performance French car mags recently running a R5T set up, that would be interesting

Logan MCV with R26 innards. Direct swap.

Enough room in the back for a big V8 if you want a mid-engined monster.

Early Clio sports are a bloody good sleeper as they are.

We get Mr average mechanics here who wouldn't know a Renault from a Rover but they get the shock of there lives when a sport accidentally comes into there workshop

Considering the 2.6 Leyland 6 would outaccelerate an XU1 to 100 km/hr (lower gearing helped), that would go. Trouble is, that Leyland six j u s t fitted and had siamesed bores. With a red six, the radiator would have to be in the boot. That would also help with traction....
