That's the beauty and tradgedy of a Dauphine, If you do a cutawy it shows what a delightfully simple gadget it is, but unlike a cutaway DS, there's not a lot to see!

With all the body mods and big wheels I expected a full house 1800 807 type motor in there.

I agree, i think those wheels would slow the little 850 down! I had some 13x7 widies made (Lotus style) for my MK1 Escort with 2.0L engine many years ago and compared to the light alloys it had, you could feel the difference in response had dropped off. Looked cool though!
    cheers,

    John

I agree that the power plant is a little underwhelming but the rest of it looks just smashing...I want..

Did they ever make a Dauphine convertible..?

Don’t you have one of them?

This came from Australian Sports & Classic Cars, Sep/Nov 1995 and is based on info in Edouard Seidler’s books about Renault.

“The idea of a mass produced sporting derivative of the Dauphine came from Renault boss Pierre Dreyfus and Dauphine project manager Fernand Picard during a trip across the Atlantic to Florida.

The result: a stylish Frua-designed two door, two seater based on a chassis by Chausson. It was called Floride early in the piece, but later became the Caravelle.”

Nice one it's obviously his pride and joy

Would be a lot more work, but extending the doors length would just finish it off i reckon. Still a top effort though. Some interesting badges and chrome work on it
    cheers,

    John

Agreed, it is a top effort, and he would have used a Floride or Caravelle soft top mechanism by the looks of the chrome latches.

So not really such an impossible task for someone with the skills and tenacity and years of spare time to do it all. Not a big fan of the front seats though, they look out of era for me, but a top effort.

When are you gonna build one John?

Geez you have good eyes or different photos. I can't see the seats or the Floride hood bits.

Graham I can only dream of doing such a project. I'd love to have the paint n panel skills that you have. For me, I'd be happy to snap up the red one on Carsales at the moment. I reckon the price is right now, not that I've checked it out or anything but the happy snaps certainly make it look nice & original. Just needs the wheels back to silver & Dauphine hub caps back on
