Expected to debut in full at Paris in September, and to be five-door only, with concealed handles for rear doors like Alfa Romeo.

Nobody interested in the new Clio?

Here's a leaked image ahead of tonight's official release.

I think it looks really good! I like the 4 door idea, i have often bemoaned the fact that people who want 4 door frenchies often have to buy more "mundane" cars..

Looks like a variant of a Mazda 2/3. And the "concealed" rear door handles are getting a little old hat now, appearing on many other cars. They don't make the cars look any better, they just make you think, why does the front door look so short.....

Has RS ever released a 5 door Clio based model before?

I assume it would be a move to combat the Polo GTI that is available in 3/5 door layouts?

    Default Clio RS !!!

    gezza,
I agree completely. The best looking of the range is the 2002/182RS. Small, compact and went like a rocket, stopped and handled extremely well. Renault have lost the plot a bit. just before coming back to WA I drove in a friends 182, with a 205 motor in it, now that was an experience.

And to cap it off, according to all the media reports I've read, the RS will not be offered with a manual transmission, only an automated dual clutch system, much like VW's Polo GTi.

Manual buyers will be left with the Megane RS only.

i agree re the yellow, I'm not so sold on the DCT theory though... How expensive is that gonna be when it shits itself? And lets face it if the VW ones have been doing it, the Renault ones will too

Most manufacturers seem to use Borg Warner components, including Nissan in their DSG transaxle in the GTR. Googling "Nissan dsg gearbox problems" doesn't seem to throw anything up and as the boxes in the new RS are likely to come from that source there shouldn't be a problem, except for those of us who take longer than 200 milliseconds to change a gear!

    A) That's the stock car out of camoflague, not the RS version
    B) Transmissions for the RS have not yet been confirmed by RenaultSport.

Yep, the yellow is great. Pity they don't introduce a decent yellow to the rest of the R range. And I like the 5 door concept.

Looks like someone has taken a can opener to the side from a distance!

    from Facebook:

    Renault
“New Renault Clio was conceived as a piece of sensuous sculpture which stimulates desire. No acute or aggressive angles, just voluptuous curves that make you want to go up to it and caress it.” Laurens van den Acker (Senior Vice-President, Corporate Design Renault). What do you think?

if it looked like Jessica Biel then maybe!

I like it. but I generally like cars with 'shoulders' over the back flanks.

I think it will look especially good in white with that black strake down the side.

I like the new corporate nose and think it will be very adaptable and tuneable to the personalty of different models in the Renault range going forward.

The rear end is a bit plain, but not unattractive.

I think it's more cohesive than either the current Megane or Clio despite liking elements of both of those cars.

    No Kim,

    I'm planning on ageing GRATEFULLY..

They're my gears, and I'll engage or grate them as much as I like..

Seriously, would you rather have a De Lorean with a slushbox or an A310 manual?

Sure, that's looking back, but having driven modern DSG and PDK boxes, they leave me cold.

Anyway, details for Clio 4 haven't been announced yet, and I can't believe an RS would be offered
    without a manual box.

Might change my mind, though, if the road going A110-50 has a sequential option with those
    afterburners... BRING IT ON!

I may have mentioned before somewhere I've driven 500 and 600 bhp trucks with 18 speed electronic manual gearboxes. Once you got them worked out they were fantastic, they also cut down repair bills on the whole drive train by not allowing stupid downshifts etc, improving economy, engine and tyre life and even the most unskilled driver could drive one competently.

Manual gearboxes these days are for car nerds, it's far easier for a manufacturer to sell a sexy concept that anyone can drive than anything that requires skill to operate. That's our problem, coming up!
