    Default 4CV engine swap

ok guys, I'm now donning my flak jacket . I've just been given an old Toro Groundsmaster 72
which has in it a Continental R839-46 engine. According to the specs, this develops 36bhp and 39.lbs/ft torque. Has a Solex 32 PDIS 3 carb.
I was assured by the owner that this is just an upgraded 4CV motor and will slip straight in. On looking at it, the exhaust pipe will need changing.
    Any thoughts/comments Thanks. Rod.

I could be wrong but I thought they had the equivalent to the Dauphine/R4 engine of 850cc so it should (in theory) be an easy upgrade
    cheers,

    Default Torro !

    Hi,
I have worked on these Torros in the far past and they certainly are a Renno motor. However they are built as a commercial motor and there are differences to the car motors. And there were different models too.

However the important detail to check is which way the engine runs. I believe they could be either direction of rotation. I could be wrong !!

Correct, the 4CV and R4 motors are essentially the same but the R4 runs in the opposite direction.

    That could be a problem...
