Default The GTA is Finally Going

After many years of mucking around the GTA is finally going.

I described the car and the issues on a previous thread which must have got lost in the big crash so I will do a quick summary of the history.

Originally a Hong Kong car, early 90s it was shipped off to the UK to a company called Torque Performance to be modified. Engine was converted to odd fire with a Volvo crank, 2.8 litres, custom pistons, twin turbos (TD04s), charge cooler, Volvo inlet manifold etc etc. The Hong Kong owner paid for the work but never picked it up so it sat at their yard for 10+ years. A friend of mine who worked at the company at the time bought it and shipped it to NZ. It sat in his garage for another 10 years before I bought it off him. I stripped the engine, cleaned and sorted a few issues, installed a Link ECU with 6 individual coils and a cam angle sensor from a Nissan instead of the distributor. Tuning the car ended up being the longest process but this week we finally got there and I had my first real drive last night.

Very pleased with the way it has turned out. The car is very well behaved, as you would expect with the 2 little turbos it makes instant power very low down, peak torque is at 3000rpm and peak power is at 5500 so anywhere from 2500 to 5500 it just goes with no turbo lag at all. Dyno sheet attached.

Max hp ended up at 207 at the wheels on 8 lbs of boost. This equates to about 250hp at the flywheel. We decided to keep the boost level fairly low as it seems to drive so well and I wanted to get used to the car.

Still a bit to do such as certification, get the A/C going and at some stage bigger brakes.

    Default Yeeha

At last Ross, and what a frustrating exercise this has been for you!
Got the A110 going last night too with the new motor, cooling system too, and seems to be good (again at last).
Must have been a day for it.
