Default Weber Manifold for 8 port sierra motor

    I feel I may be out of luck ................however;

Anyone know where I may be able to get Side-draft Weber /Dellorto manifold for the 8 port Sierra engine?

Single or dual carb configuration, new or second hand - I don't care

Had a look on the forum and at the usual suspects - nothing in Aus. It may be possible that Lynx/Ramflo in the US still make one - but I would rather source locally if possible)

You may be out of luck.

French auto care (in Brisbane) used to have non-pulsed ones like mine. I spoke to them last yr at the renaultsport expo and they no longer had some, but were a bit vague on whether they could still get them (apparently the guy who used to cast them retired).

Caravelle had some lynx copies (Pulsed) which Rob M had had done a number of years ago.

Maybe we should pull mine off after the next event and look at getting a cast made and go into limited production!

    Default webber manifold

if you are going down this path, try to find a pattern maker to do you a pattern so that when theavidy are cast & machined they fit without any trouble. if you tke a mould of your manifold it will be slighly bigger.

Instead of reinventing the wheel, why not try to find the bloke who did them for Rob M, the castings must be around somewhere.

it,s not the casting you need to make a casting it's the pattern.the problem is that a lot of castings made in the last few years are taken of castings( manifolds rocker covers ect ) & the are do not fit properly i have access to a pattern for 1600 motor for webbers ect which is bolt on no modes as we have on our 12 with 17 running gear .

    Good points from both David's.
I liked the non-pulsed version better actually, so have a slight preference for that.
DB - I actually meant getting a pattern made (is your Dad still up for it?), but my lack of correct techniques is evident.

Okay, I hear what your saying but I know Rob was quite fussy when getting his made and he got quite a few done, I'm just thinking you could save yourselves a bit of time and money by using the same people. It was only about 5 years ago so the patterns may not be lost yet.

Fish, I think they need a new yellow pages listing for ol' Barry...hoarders anon would be more suitable than 'wreckers'.

When you say an 8 port head do you mean the 1400 heads with the 8 totally separate ports or do you mean the 1300 head. I used Datsun 1200 manifolds on the Dauphine which used a 1400 head, they fit with a small amount of modification. I do have a twin carb manifold made for the Sierra motor, I have never used it and Im not sure exactly which head it was designed for. Not sure I want to sell it but if it is of any use to you as a pattern then I could post it over.

I think he has a 10S head on an 1108 sierra block presently. But he also has another car with a 1289 out of an R12. I've got the 1.4 engine out of the virage in mine.

What are the differences between these three heads, and which would work with the Datsun Manifold?
What mods are needed to make it fit?

    Cheers

The Datsun manifold only works with the 1.4 head, only minor mods needed the worst being 2 small blocks either welded or screwed to the top of the head to take the top bolt of each manifold. Obviously a bit of porting needed to line things up.

Thanks Everyone for the intel. Ross, as KB said it is a 1289 R12 Motor. Funny enough I had a a look at a Datsun 1200 manifold and wondered if it can be used. The R17 Motor Inlet Manifold also appears to be close.
OS prices are scorching even with the puffed up Aussie Dracma. I'll just have to keep close to Ebay and wait for a 2nd hand specimen to appear.

My recollection is that they are round, but if you wanted to be sure, pop in and see John Taylor at Pedders in Penrith - I'm assuming he would still be there. he used to have them cast back when he was doing a lot of stuff with Datsun 1200's.

    Default Datsun manifolds

    Yeah Kev,

Jeff Taylor @ JTS (brother John runs pedders in Penrith i think) has them, but not many of the round ports, he has a stack of the oval port ones.

might have to keep my eyes peeled for one on the datsun forum.
