Default Renault are having a Happy Xmas

They are predicting that sales for the year to Dec 31 will be 2.6 million vehicles and they will make 3,3 billion Euros profit. Certainly better than the whopping loss they made in 2009.

The profit is not made perhaps where you might expect. A big part came from the sale of 15% of Volvo AB, the truckmaker and most of the rest from Nissan and their other part owned entities around the world.

With Australia at around 25 million and the world about 2.5 billion who are able to buy a vehicle you would expect that they would sell 1% of their output in Australia - that is 26,000.

    Something wrong somewhere?

I dont get how Volkswagen can be selling like hotcakes and they dont seen to worry about currency exchange rates like the French makers do. Surely Renault can do better.

Not counting "sports" versions, Renault have four versions of their "mid-sized" car (Megane/Fluence), VW have 14 (including 4 wagons). Renault don't sell a small car, VW have 3 Polo versions. Renault have one version of the Laguna in run out, VW have a new model coming in petrol and diesel, sedan or wagon.

You can get a VW Golf or Polo in petrol or diesel with a maunal or auto gearbox - you can't in a Renault. Renault could sell 26,000 cars in Australia but they need to provide a reason for people to walk into the showroom - at the moment they don't (but seem to be working on it).

Fair assessment I think. Renault need to talk to VW I think.
