Default R10 Round eye ...Steering wheel hub

Hi all ... i bought for the R10 a nice new Momo steering wheel. Until today i have not been able to get the old one off ....but luck tonight was on my side an i got it off.

I have been collecting for some reason over the past few years different steering wheel hubs an i was sure i would have one that fitted the 10 an my new Momo wheel ....but no

Does anyone have one tucked away in the garage that they dont need ...want to sell ... or give away?

All the ones i have are way too small. the one that came off it is aprox 20mm OD then tapers up to about 19 mm.

I have no idea if the 1967 model was different to a 70's 10 but if someone knows i would apprecaite some feedback.

Now the 10 is stuck in the garage

So close an still so far

    Dom,
The R8s have a larger steering shaft, and it later changed to the smaller one as in late R10s & R12s.
The R8 Gordini (1300) has the larger diameter shaft throughout their life (1966 -> 1970)
I don't know when the change was made during the life of the R10, but seemingly after 1967. The parts book would no doubt give an exact vehicle ID change, but you're mainly interested if someone has an early boss.

If you get one for an R8 you will be OK.

    Good luck.

The late model R10 column is the same as an early Ford Escort, same number of splines and diameter.

Measure the diameter and count the splines and hit the wreckers if no-one comes up with a suitable boss kit they want to part with. Maybe there is a list of steering columns and diameters on this wonderful world wide web thingy

    Dom,

I've heard that escort comment before myself. I have two wheels at least that you can try (the current one on my R10 and another sports wheel which came off the 10 (Formuling which mounts differently to Momo, so no use to you except for a sample to try for matching the splines). That may help determine if yours has R10 splines or R8 splines as per Rob's post.

And your car shouldn't be stuck - just lightly grease the splines and put the original back on (or borrow my spare if you damaged it getting it off).

If worse comes to worse, the red rocket has a prototipo off an A110; I can pull that off and you can borrow the hub until you can source one. As long as that has a wheel to move it with it won't won't matter what one.

I think if i didnt have to go too far it might be ok ... but i really dont want to chance any problems.

So it looks like now i am looking for a R8 hub not a R10 ... I am never going to get this thing on the car !

If you don't get any you can send both the wheels to me and I'll make you one.

If you measure the diameter and count the splines I have a brand new Renault after market sport steering wheel made by Astrali (smaller diameter than original, but not too small) I can let you have for the price of postage if you want. Hub is not separate, three spoke, leather. It says on the box it fits anything Renault from R8/10 to Fuego. I bought it for a R12, but don't like the look it gives the car. It was bought on ebay, but never tried it, so not sure what diameter/spline count it has. I can measure everything once you decide.

I also have another boss, a MotoLita for R12/17, you could have that one if you want again for postage price, but that one has eight holes for the steering wheel and a large diameter hole steering wheel at that.

My renault 10 (1966, roundeye Euro spec) had a R5 steering wheel, so they fit.

As Rob suggests from the various parts books:

    R8 Steering columns:

    Part No 0981960800 R1130 - to vehicle 386176
    R1132 - to vehicle 205999

    then
Part No 0981958700 R1130 - from vehicle 386177 to end
    R1132 - from vehicle 206000 to end
with an alternative part no of 7701500001

    R10 Steering columns:

    Part No 0981960800 vehicles 1 - 77729

    then
    Part No 0981958700 Vehicles 77730 - 347173
with an alternative part no of 7701500001

    then
Part No 7701500002 Vehicle 347174 to end

I guess all we can tell from that is that they ran similar steering columns in R8 &10's until vehicle 347174 in the R10's. I can't tell OD's from the parts book, but perhaps that suggests vehicle 347174 represents the change from larger OD to smaller OD?

Swapped a late model R10 steering wheel (18mm) for an early model R10 one (20mm) as per following old thread for my R8 (20mm) & it fitted perfectly:

I have a question regarding steering wheel hubs. Just bought a Renault 10 with a steering wheel from what I believe is a R5. Should not be any problem to use a aftermarket steering wheel hub for a R5 if I can't find anything that is specified for a R10?

@R8RX: R5 steering wheel fits the later R8/10 models(R5 Alpine(turbo) steering wheel have been a common upgrade) and that goes for aftermarket hubs for the R5 too. You can also use hubs for varios Citroen(A friend of mine used to use one from an AX) and Peugeots from the eighties and nineties. Earlier in the thread Ford Escort have been mentioned as well.

If you make an ad in any of the Norwegian Classic Renault groups on Facebook someone will probably offer you what you need.

    Thank you for your answer

Yes, I saw someone mention Escort steering wheel, so I tried one from a MK1 Escort. Did not fit, the hole was to small.

Haven't gotten into Facebook, but have a couple of connections, so should be ok.
