I don't think I've seen this one before. Bit different. They're calling it a Floride S.

cheers,

This one has been around the block a few times. It started off in Sydney back near 30 years ago as it appears now with the Ford mirrors, graphics and paint. Then was bought by someone in SA, passed in at the only Shannons auction held in SA, which must be 20 years ago, and I hadn't seen it since then. Floride S = R1131 956cc Caravelle with both a soft top and a (Floride shape) hard top.

I was close, but no banana. Now I know why I'm doing what I'm doing :-)
Anyways, I dug out the pics, and there were no graphics on the sides circa 30 years ago (top pic) when in Sydvegas. They made an appearance when in RAdelaide, circa 20 years ago (middle pic), along with the nice collection of badges. Then I recalled I had seen it more recently, it was advertised by Collectible Clunkers when they were on South Road, in 2005 (bottom pic).

Hi everybody!
In spite of what is written in the above article a Floride S is NOT a Floride
There are plenty and major difference between Floride S and Floride.
I use to say as many differences as between a Renault Dauphine and a Renault 8
Let-us start again
First was the Project 109
4 Drum brakes, 845 cm3 engine 3 Gears
In 1955 it gave birth to the model R1090 called Dauphine and many others
We have
R1091 Dauphine Gordini launched in 1958
R1092 called Floride in 1959
R1093 THE fabulous Dauphine Gordini in 1962
etc....
So the R1092 based on the Dauphine is called Floride in France and most of the countries
It is called Caravelle for export to the US and some countries
Time passed and years later arrives the Project 113
4 disc brakes 956 cm3 engine 4 gears ...
It gave birth to the model R1130 called R8 and many others
We have
R1130 = R8 Launched in sept 1962
R1131= Floride S produced from march 1962 ( 6 month before R8)
R1132 = R8 Major in 1964
R1133 = Caravelle 1100 and 1100S produced from June 1963 and may 1965 ( two models but same number)
R1134 = R 8 Gordini 1100 in 1964
R1135 = R 8 Gordini 1300 in 1967
etc....
The R 1131 with soft top was called Floride S cabriolet for France but Caravelle S for US export.
The R 1131 with both soft top and Hard top was called Floride S convertible for France
The R 1131 with only hard top was called Caravelle coupé for France and Caravelle S for US export.
Easy isn'it ?![]()
The R 1133 with soft top was called cabriolet Caravelle 1100 for France
The R 1133 with both soft top and hard top was called Caravelle 1100 convertible for France
The R 1133 with only hard top top was called Caravelle 1100 coupé for France
The name Caravelle was used Worldwide with soft and / or hard top
I hope this clarify a bit this difficult model naming.
Regards

^ A nice summary. Also there was the Caravelle 1100 S, probably about the only Renault "S" version not to have a badge advertising it as such.
I've been in touch with Shannons in the past about some of their descriptions, but they seem to go to deaf eyes. Seeing that they appear to achieve fairly reasonable prices at their auctions, I'm guessing accuracy of description is not really an issue for them :-)

Thanks Simon
Yes. As mentioned above , the Caravelle 1100S has the same model number than the Caravelle 1100 .
They are both R1133.
It is amazing to think that few 1100s has been produced
34 226 - 20 821= 13 406
Related to the rest of the production
59 369 R1092 Floride ( and export caravelle)
29 318 R1131 Floride S Caravelle ( and export caravelle S )20 821 R1133 Caravelle 1100
Total is 117 113 cars
In the Floride Caravelle meetings in France , R1092 are 10% of the cars and Caravelle 1100 S ( original or modified from other versions) 70% of the cars
Here is a small chart of the oval plate number according to production date

Hi everyone.
Working on daughter's Caravelle and got the brakes working and just spent the last three weekends under the dash and had to do a lot of work chasing wires back to the right locations. Only one light on the dash was actually connected.
The only thing I need now to finish to dash wiring is a original windscreen wiper switch. Metal toggle type three pin. Up - ON, middle- Off, down - return wipers to rest position.
If anyone has a wiper switch that they do not need, please contact me.
Thank you
Here's a well known Floride owner posing for the press

FYI,
I have it on good authority that the Shannons Floride S has crossed the border and now resides in Queensland. One more for us.

A few of us had a crawl over the ex Phil & Sally T’s Caravelle last Sunday.
The new Sydney owner took it on an RCCA run to Mt Tomah botanic gardens.
Gorgeous car and still looking nice.
