Silly question, but are you after the rectangular lights or the 5.75" round type?

Also some of the rectangular lights are RHD only, so wouldnt suit your LHD car.

Also try this site if none come up try here: http://www.r16site.com/

And, being 1970, they should be Cibie not Lucas - there was an "unfortunate" period when local content dictated.......

    Hi John,

Do you know what years in the 70's the Lucas were used on the 16?

On my 72, one of my headlights was a Lucas I replaced with a Cibie.

Not exactly, but I bet Simon does. I recall it was around 1973-76, then the last ones made in Australia had those great Cibie biodes.

The only thing that matters is to avoid the sealed beam horrors.

A couple of '73s I've been raiding have the plastic bowl Lucases. The Yellow Streak '72 project has metal bowl Lucas (I worked hard to preserve the decal). Have noticed some signs of excessive heat in the plastic three-way connector plugs. I have barely looked at anything past '74 and they all seemed to be essentially the same Lucas headlights.

It must almost be time for someone to resilver a batch of 16 bowls!

    Gday Addo!

I have a metal bowl Lucas here also, must check the condition of the silver.

I also have a bunch of Cibies here, some of which would need to be silvered. All strictly RHD I'd assume tho.

Speaking of lights, does anyone know where I can get covers for the Cibie fog lights on the 16?

    David.

The Lucas lights were used from 1971-1975. The later black grille cars having the Cibie Kangaroo's.

The LHD & RHD lights can be identified by the arrows on the glass under the E2 mark. Generally the Cibie lights have a double headed arrow denoting that it is for both LHD & RHD, these also have a slider to tilt the globe for LHD or RHD use. The RHD headlights have a single arrow pointing to the LHS of the car (pointing to your right arm if you are facing the glass) .

Thanks for the definitive answer Simon!

    DAvid,

Autobarn will supply these covers through Cibie. They are slightly different from the originals, but I guess all things change and only a few will spot the difference.

Thanks, found a cheap set on ebay.

I would also like to make some headlight protectors for the 16, as the ones I will be putting on the car are perfect.
Were there any after market 'renault' protectors sold with the car as extras? even late in the piece?

    David.

May have been some mesh ones or similar. I have one grille half off a 73/74 that has neatly drilled four holes around the headlight perimeter. The other half of the grille is done similarly.

    Regards, Adam.

There were two sorts for the 12 and 16. Either a rectangular mesh version, or a custom Australian made moulded perspex version, that either screwed to the surround, or just fitted in behind the surround and over the headlight.

There was also a flat perspex version for the 10 which was retained by the headlamp surround screws.
