    Default Drive Shafts

How can you tell if the drive shafts are any good when they are not in the car?
I know that you would normally listen for the clicking sound when you take the car for a drive, but the drive shafts came out of a non-runner Fuego.
The Fuego had done 250,000Kms and I don't know if they are the originals or have been replaced.
One is rusty on the shaft and on the inner CV doova, but they they are both completely intacked!

The correct way is to pull the boots off (these can just be slid down the shaft) clean the grease out, and check the contact surfaces and balls for pitting or worn-in tracks or other defects.

As a general check, putting the shaft firmly in a vice and rotating the joint while flexing it (of course, it wont turn) to check for play is a bit of an indicator. Also, for the inner joint that extends, move it in and out while doing this.

Of course, this isn't failsafe, but if there's a fair bit of play or practcally any clacking, you could say it is likely that it's knackered.

    Default Fuego Driveshafts

My catalogue shows outer joints are available . Spline count is as follows
    23 x 25 Seal dia 56.5 mm This joint fits Fuego, R16, R20,R21, & R25.
I cannot quote a price as My book does not have a pric listing for this joint.
As a guess I think around $88 inc GST .
    Inners are VERY scarce.

Thanks for the replies guys. I'll try the vice trick that you suggested Stuey. As these will only be a spare set I'm not particularly interested in getting them repaired, I just wanted to know whether they were worth keeping or chucking out with the rest of what's left of the car. I plan to get another donnor car in the not too distant future.
Thanks for the offer though Routley43!
