Default Got my Mégane 4 door

Ah well, big news here, kinda irrelevant back in Oz but oh well.. its fun all the same

June 2004 Mégane 1.6 Berline 4 door Luxe Privilège. Oz doesnt get this configuration. Its done almost 11400kms and is clean and tidy all round. I'm used to the 1.6 in the Scénic and it feels similar, though this is 2 years newer and hence a whole 4kw more , but 150-200kg less I think. I haven't yet compared torque curves etc. Feels quite nice on the road, and a little more refined than basically the same engine in the Scénic. Of course, a lot of other things have changed between the Mégane I and II platforms.

The interior is nice.. leather and cloth, standard CD, proximity key card, auto lights, auto wipers etc.

The key card is cool. Walk up and open the door. It doesnt unlock until you push your hand near the sensor and holding it two arms lengths away wont let you unlock it. It *is* nice to not have to get the key out for getting in or starting. Foot on the brake or clutch and push the start button.

Got a little patriotic in some ways and got those plates . Thats about as customised as you get here :S. AU5513 wasnt available.

it looks beautiful! nice colour too. seems to be very well maintained externally.

yeah, it's a pity the Oz spec cars requires you to remove the card and press on it instead of being able to unlock the doors by touching the door handles.

Gorells in Geelong have a new Estival sedan(auto) on the floor in that colour. It looks great, but wasn't on the paint chart when i got mine.

When Sharon got her Megane ar GWS twelve months ago there was a Clio in that colour on the floor and i never seen it again.

Craig the sedan is a good drive, not overly sporty but easy around town and superb on a cruise.Enjoy!!

Well it might not have the power of a Mégane Sport, but its still fun. The chassis and suspension really seem to be alive underneath you, a lot more feeling and solidity there. The front suspension and steering is nice, although I guess it missed out on the update, unsure of that. It would be interesting to compare a new one versus mine on the twisty roads around here.

Got our Mégane LXR 5-door today, first new car ever for us, so it's kinda exciting :-)

    (8:30am this morning)

Only done 20km in our hands so far, but really enjoying it. Love the 6 speed box, ratios are really nice!

Handling seems pretty sharp on the 17" wheels (mind you, my handling yardsticks are all old and worn out) - not sure what the whole kerfuffle is about the steering, I find it nicely weighted compared to my folks 94 Laguna (A little too light for my liking). I guess being a reasonably new build means it may have the upgraded steering which Renault were saying was going to filter down the entire product line.

Unfortunately it's raining now, so I suspect it will be a spotty mess by morning!

I have never seen hardly any french cars towing in australia. Can they tow anything?

Nice cars, both of you. I really like the Megane (gratuitous Daniel quote ).

Daniel, both of the cars in my sig have tow bars. The Renault has towed a 6x4 full of concrete slabs. Mind you, it didn't stop very well... (What's that smell, dear? Oh, that's just the brakes - the flames'll die off once we get moving again.)

    Default Can French cars tow?

    Daniel, they sure can.

In the year 2000 we took our family up the centre of Australia and did the left hand side. Four months, 21,000kms, five on board. We towed a 1,100kg campervan.

    *Aiconditioning on at all times.
    *Drove at posted speeds eveywhere.
*Never passed by another towing vehicle.
    (we passed most towing cars)
*Better economy than 4WD's doing the same thing.

    Which French Car?
    1991 Peugeot 505 familiale.
(9 yrs and 180Kkms at the time)
    3 rows of seats
    2.2 litre, 4sp auto
    Cool, spacious comfort for all.
We'd all go back and do it again in the same car.
    Can they tow!

Thanks, I had the towbar fitted for two reasons:

    1. Occasionally it is handy to be able to rent a trailer and cart stuff (ie. sand, furniture etc.)
    2. None of my other (going) cars have a towbar.
    3. Whilst buying new, I though it best to get one fitted rather than later - I know it became quite hard to get a towbar for the Phase I Lagunas a few years ago, when they were about 5 or 6 years old.

You bet they can! I used to tow a sailplane trailer with my old R16TS, and that has a lot less power & torque than the Megane. Fuegos are excellent tow vehicles IMO, good torquey motor and gearbox ratios are pretty good.

With the Megane, you wouldn't hook up a massive caravan to it of course, but certainly all the standard trailers will be fine.

    Very yummy car.

I haven't taken a look at them in the flesh (hurts too much to know I cant afford one)

Can you take some shots from the inside for me sometime. Wouldnt mind seeing how the glass roof looks from the inside.

Yum! Might buy one in 10 years.

PS, love the custom number plates! Are they the ones that go 3d when you squint?

No probs, took this photo at the same time as the others:

Sitting in the back seat looking forwards is really nice, wonderful ambient light in the car with both blinds open.

Very nice - love the color.

Daniel - you should see what the Dutch will tow in Europe with 1.4 litre engines.

Cool! It's arrived! I was wondering if it was the black Megane they had at Main North when I saw the two RSCC's there this afternoon, obviously not. Looking good!

    Car looks great Europa,

My Estival is almost a month old and we just love the glass roof. It was strange at night time at first with the street lights shining in.
