    Default R17 Turbo

    RENAULT 17 TURBO
Check out the latest copy of Retro Cars ( I get it from my local Newsagent)
its a Pommie mag and a good one it has a Write-up on a series 2 R17 ( you know the one with the P76 ugly front end) the guys dropped a 18 turbo in it should be a good read. What was Renault thinking when they grafted this noise on to the already good looking 17. Interesting spoiler he has on the front.

    Ash,
That must be a late model interior, different looking than my old '73 TL.

Yep, that's the one, only the wheels have now changed. The article shows you can't believe everything you read in magazines too, it refers to the old transverse motor in the 17 being replaced by a longitudinal one :-)

Nice bonnet vents though! Ooo, they are actually black tape........First time I've seen that mod since a Fuego with a Turbo Diesel bonnet at Warrnambool years ago with similar faux bonnet vents created from tape. It must have worked though, this guy had three chicks with him! :-)

One other thing. Why does this (and an awful lot of other ricey cars) have their pod filter in the hottest place under the bonnet? Especially on a turbo you want a nice cool air intake, preferably via a decent airbox that takes cool air in, not the stuff under the bonnet adjacent to the exhaust protected by a dodgy insulating sheet of steel.

Other amusing things in that mag, the aussie Datsun 200B that appears in their Retro Cars show report. The first time a 200B has probably ever been seen in a complementary light, then there is the Mad Max MFP Interceptor replica, only it created from a TC/TD Cortina rather than an XB Falcon at the same event, here's hoping it isn't a weedly 1.3 litre under the hood.........

Yep, it's a Series 2 car. Different dash and different "Petale" seats, there are movable thigh and body supports on the seats.

    .
I noticed this on heaps of 'worked' turbo cars too. My old S**b had it's air intake from inside the left hand wheel arch. Cold outside air.
Would be a good car to drive though, but that front like an ugly relative isn't it. Can you change the new front for an older S1 type. That would be the first thing I'd do.

Should be the same as the one that the post Seleckta is talking about in a garage in Canberra
