Default Rallying 16TS in Sth Aust in early 1970s

We are frustrated in thinking of a name. Can anyone suggest names of drivers of 16TS in Sth Aust in about 1971. One navigator was Don Newby. Any help appreciated.

Ray Bell would probably know from memory or his records
    1986 Renault Fuego GTX
    1972 Mercedes Benz 280E
    1988 Nissan Trakka Campervan
    1972 VW Kombi

Don Newby crewed with his brother Len Newby and Adrian Callary in a 16TS in 1970. Other 16TS crew were Chuck Mora, Garry Chapman, Tom Barr-Smith and Rob Hunt.

Thank you very much, Simon. Adrian Callary was the memory sticking point.

There would be a few pictures, which 16 of those do you want? Picture a Daffodil Yellow 16TS with matt black bonnet popped up at the rear and Waltons Rally Team signwriting. The SA Chateau Moteur car was basically a stock 16TS with Cibie Oscar lights.

David - My Dad and uncle used to rally in their brand new R16TS back in 69/70/71 in the Jordanian desert...that car was incredible. See article and images below.

Were Don and Keith Newby the same person or if not were they related?
Keith lived in Millicent in the early 80s where he was the local Vet, he dropped in to the Redex Rerun at Grafton Hillclimb.

Thanks Simon, Daffodil one would be great, maybe throw in a favourite or 2?

I dont know what happened to it, we sold it when we moved to Sydney back in 93 - I wish we brought it with us...its the only thing I really miss now.

I am planning to get a 1968 TS soon, one that is dark green metallic with the chrome back and the long rear lights !

I know someone who has what appears to be one of the Waltons rally team cars. Yellow paint under the present murky green and various underbody protection.

Very interesting! AFAIK at least one car was destroyed, the motor being installed in a 750, then later in a 12G, the SA based car was advertised for sale in the early 1970's, but after that the trail goes cold. It would be nice to know if at least one of the cars has survived.

As for Don and Keith Newby, I wouldn't know if there is a connection there.

Rally identity and champion ARC navigator in 1973, Warwick Smith had an ex Ampol Trial 16TS until the late 70s and another ex Ampol car lived here in Balwyn for many years.

Well, well, Callary and Chapman!! Nice someone remembers them - did they not win the SA Rally Championship 3 times running in more or less standard 16TS cars, twice of them with the same car?

I like the paint scheme, the way it covers the top of the front guards, following the line under and around the back quarter windows.
