Car Stereo installation for a R 10

Are there any hints for installing front speakers in a R10. Im not sure of the exact dimensions but i think they are the round 6in type.
I havent got a good head unit yet but was thinking if one would fit in the drivers side golve box, or maby a custom make enclosure fitted under the dash would be good?
I intend to run a 4 channel 1000 watt amp and am just waiting for it to go on special be4 i buy it.
I am going 2 cook up a parcel shelf to sit above the existing one for my 6*9in speakers. :p
If any1 is selling a sub or super tweeters @ a good price i may be interested.
Any ideas folks on how to make all this fit??

Are you serious ? If so the boys at French connection will do a roaring trade in R10 body shells, 1000 Watts with Sub Woofer. Thats major vibration at 0-100Hz. The R8's & R10's are made of extremely light weight materials they do what they were designed for REALLY WELL and the original radios were around 2Watts. Not just a 500 times power increase the effects are exponential. If you would like a good massage there are better ways of getting it than driving around in tour R10.
Also if the power is truely 1000Watts i'd say you'd need to have 2 more alternators fitted as simple Math ie. P = Volts x Current, therefore Current = P / Volts 1000 / 12 = 83 Amps required, someone will do a roaring trade in batteries as no car battery will take 80 plus amps charge for long.
I hope this opens some lively debate.
Please come along to the RCCV meeting next thursday night, at Surrey hills neighbourhood house,Union Rd enter from Bedford Av 8 pm start & meet fellow enthusiasts.

I don't really have a problem with people installing "ICE" systems into their cars - after all, it's their choice!

But I think you'll find that the current calculation doesn't quite work out as high as stated.

It all depends on the 1000W output - is it a peak rating or constant etc. etc.

I'd imagine at peak output you'd be drawing something like 30 amps or so. Of course, not many people run the amps at continual peak output (you'd be deaf)

One could also install a second battery, or uprate the existing alternator.

Quite doable I believe. If you really want to :-)

quite do-able, my amps are rated at 1200wrms, actual power rating is over 2000wrms.
run off the standard alt with an optima yellow top battery (deep cycle).
though i never ran it at full volume and have since removed it from the pug.

Yeah, i allways have wondered about the validity of amp power ratings. I dont think they use the more meeningful watts rms units. I totally aggree, 80 odd amps is totally stupid. There must be some kind of con over the whole car Stereo industry, you know, like using misleeding figures that are supposed to make you go "OOh Ahh"
Stupid a? clown

Perhaps the sub wooffer idea isn't such a hot one. I meen a mate of mine has a $2000 car stereo (the full shebang, 2 subs, lights etc), in his crappy & rusty mazda 626. The net result is the stereo is worth more than the car. Thats my idea of a waste of time!

Thursday's RCCV meeting sounds good.
I have noticed that there are aussie frogs stickers avalible but French Connection (Airport West)is not exactly on my places ferquently visited list. Would there be any aussie frogs or RCCV stickers avalible @ the meeting question

Well Guys,

The only brand I've EVER heard of understating the power output of there Amps (usualy considerably) is Alpine. Aparantly with any new alpine amplifier sold, you get the factory spec's of the amp on the box, then when you open it all up, the actualy RMS output as tested written on a label before it left the factory. Sometimes this was double the rated power written on the box. Don't know if this is still the case, but it used. to be.

Nothing'll will turn me away from looking at Audio stuff quicker than (4 x 500watts!) or something totaly ridiculous like that written all over an amplifier and packaging. (unless it's a $5000 amp of course ).

I'd get the lowest powered quality amp I could afford rather than the cheapest amp with the highest output I could find (eg: the really realy cheap high output amps sold at Strathfield and places like that). You'll probably find the 'low power' amp actualy has more output than the cheapo anyway

What really surprises me is the fact the stuff Gibgib advertised in the For Sale section not sold within seconds of him clicking 'add post'

Two small 8" subbies in a ported box would probably have been ideal for an R10 (though I wonder where you could mount any subbies in a R10, after all there no 'boot' as such in them ).
