    Default French Air Horns

Years ago I had a set of FIAMM air horms which played the opening bars of "La Marseillaise" but after a few years of dragging them through creek crossings, they died.
I can't find any listings for them any more.
Does anyone know if air horns playing this tune are available?
Alternatively, can anyone point me in the direction of air horns similar to those used on the Tour de France official vehicles?

You hear these air horns playing that anthem all the time in France.

I've been to my local FIAMM reseller but La Marseillaise is not on the list of FIAMM tunes. WOLO is another manufacturer which has a larger range of tunes than FIAMM but they do not have it either.

Where do the French get them I wonder?

Thanks for bringing up the topic Uggliozzi
and thanks for posting the link Europa

Have been searching for a set of those myself.
Perhaps an Aussie Frogs bulk purchase.

Have one of the plastic trumpeted klaxons they list in my Hilux. When it works its great but seems intermittent. Yet to get time to check out relay and adjustment.
Does anyone know why the use of a klaxon is illegal when a non standard fitting?
Sounds like an old legislation so that horses wouldn't be spooked.

I think I found the horns that most of the Tour de France support
    cars are using

    http://www.top-gear.net/products.asp...d=4&deptid=120

Alternating Sound 3 trumpet air horn, the first two in the list

Anyone else rekon this is the tune?

I just checked their postage costs 48 pounds up to 2Kg for non EU
adresses. I guess I won't be getting them there...

Having been inspired by Europa, I had a rummage around the internet and came across an Italian company, Stebel, who manufacture a five horn set which plays (their name) "Les enfants du Puree". I think this may be a guess at "Les enfants de la patrie".

Their website suggests a minimum buy of five units. I have sent an email requesting more information but have not had a reply yet.

While it didn't play any tunes the air horn in my R5 GTE was a great 2-tone blast of surprise for all who heard it. Stock from Renault, no less.

Wish the Megane had it. Pure class.

First car I fitted air horns to was a Bellett,
I know what you are thinking, would have been better to fit decent brakes and handling first.
Driving along the Pacific Highway following a slow moving old codger, (he was probably younger than I am now). Gave him a blast with said air horns. He casually glanced across to the railway line parallelling the road looking for the train.
When I purchased the klaxon from Autobarn they had the mother of all air horns on display. It was supposed to be able to be activated by the customer on a display stand, but the noise it made so so loud that the staff had sabotaged it. The trumpet would have done justice to the Queen Mary and would have stuck out both ends of a Suzuki Mighty Boy.
Power for this monster came from a large compressed air tank which you presumably filled with air at the servo. An electric solenoid activated the instrument and all that air suddenly rushing forward would surely have introduced some negative G force. Guaranteed to clear a path ahead until the next servo at least.

Ozzi, put my name down. Mine and yours, that's 2....any more??
I have wondered about a musical airhorn and was sure there would be something around that played this.

Found several musical horns on e-bay UK. None so far with the right tune, but I am sure if we email any of the vendors they may be able to do us a deal on what we want. The e-bay prices are less thnan half of the website price from Top-Gear mentioned earlier.

Can someone with an e-bay a/c have a look possibly and put a question to one of them. I would but our e-bay a/c is in x-mas mode already here, Sue got in first this year andhas a couple of auctions running for my presents apparently and to stop me looking has changed the password

I'm not getting anything back from overseas suppliers or the manufacturer (Stebel of Italy). People don't want to make money?

    I haven't given up though.

Before e-mail I used snail mail to Italian business's quite often.

The classic reply was " in answer to your letter of the 4th. August 1980 we would like to purchase........" This was in April 1981.
