I've have taken some pics of it at the start of the Targa West this morning. I'll have to wait until I get home tonight to get them off the camera.

Hey thats a nice find simon, Colin Stark from Alpine Affaire has one of these 'cevennes' R5 Turbos in his collection he is currently restoring ...

What makes this car special is that it's a Turbo1 with the very modern dash and special alloy panels that the Turbo 2 did not have, it was like the Turbo 1 was the special built car, while the Turbo 2 was dumped down material wise to bring the costs down and sell more, well thats my opinion not that I would ever knock back any ...

What you need is a truck like this where you can make your choice...
    http://renault5turbo.ifrance.com/renault5turbo/

All I can say is that it's a bloody nice car, and I am constantly amazed by the fantastic performance renaults that are reaching our shores that were never sold here......

Good pics Troy. on the ball too. Wot, no "Caution LH Drive" warning?

Some TV action shots taken at the first stage start. No1 AC Cobra smoking its wheels at the start. No2 Ferrari smoking...... No3 Escort ditto. Camera man pans onto Ren 12 rear wheels ? No smoke. What a prat!

PS. Troy, did you have to chase all the "Goths" away from the old PO buildings to get your shots?

Big Edit.Am I right in thinking that my reference above to,"cameraman,Renault 12 rear wheels? No smoke. What a prat!" Has been misread by some AFers ?

I will draw pictures. Renault 12 rear wheels and tyre smoke? Well they wouldn't would they, The 12 is front drive! The "prat" reference is aimed at the cameraman. My apologies if my words appeared to be putting down the great efforts of "Bennysthe1" and his team.

Egg on Face Dept. Looking thru the Targa entry list, no Ren 12's?

"... to produce a rear wheel horsepower of 224.1 and about 300Nm of Torque from the 1397cc engine."

A 1.4L producing as much power on the wheel as the 2L Megane 225 on its flywheel. Now that is impressive.

No the Goths weren't a problem, though I had to keep the rain away. I could have got a closer shot of the R5 at the start line, except it rained a bit just at that time, hence the more distant shot from under cover.

There was also that weird dude wearing the army clothes and beret that marched right down the middle of the start point and down Forrest Chase, bumping into some of the cars along the way.

    hey guys. renault 5 update.
put on a new turbo last nite til 5am this morning. was goin great unfortunitely the water pump for the intercooler stopped and caused everything to heat up dramatically, putting the motec into safe mode but not before blowing a head gasket.
we are still extremely pleased tho as we are keeping up with all the big boys and its our first ever rally. the car is AMAZING!!! the limits were pushed today and the car ended up in a full spin at 155km/hr (no collision tho) and almost hit a kangaroo.
work to be done now includes a ball bearing turbo, cooling system mods and a data logger.
    will keep u updated.

The targa West prologue pics were taken at the AHG Driver Training centre
were I did a advanced driver course last week. There were several Targa
cars undergoing testing while we were there including a 2 litre Escort and
an M3. That is one sweet little course and is a lot of fun in the rain.

Good to see the Renault 5 is doing so well despite a few hiccups.

    cheers,
