The gearbox drain and level plugs on my R16 have seen better days, and the drain plug is difficult to get a spanner on properly.

Today, while they were both out, I trimmed them so that they fit into a 3/8 drive socket square.

I have an old Ford V8 distributor spanner (if any of you know what they look like, they are two 90 degree cranked rings, joined by a female/female 3/8 socket connection). I used to own an XYGT.

So I put a short extension on the rachet handle, and slip the Ford connector on the male end (where the socket usually goes), voila, a perfect sump plug tool. I use the same device without the extension on the level plug.
