    Twingo

Does anyone on this list know about the Renault Twingo coming out to Australia at some stage?
I think it would be a great entry level Renault Especially seen as how the new Twingo collection has been released from France.

My guess is probably as good as yours Daniel. Maybe.

Given the various platform shares between Nissan and Renault, and that through that arrangement the cars are likely to be engineered for RHD. It won't be the current shape Twingo though.

Also it depends on potential pricing, there is likely to be quite a crowd in that market segment. The Twingo is likely to be aimed at premium market rather than the equivalent Nissan Micra (like the present Clio being priced at a premium over the larger Pulsar). Either the base Clio would probably have to go to make space, or the Twingo may not be considered an economic proposition. The Australian marketr in the $19-30K sector is extremely competitive and price sensitive.

I would have thought that if the Twingo was sold here, it would need to be in the sub $19K bracket (well at least the "base" model anyway) to compete with the Daewoo etc.

Don't know if it could be done for that price - but now that Renault are utilising Samsung, maybe the costs could be brought down enough...

It beats me why the things were never produced in right hand drive form in the first place.

The instruments if you could call them that are in the middle of the dash already and the rest of looks like it was meant to go either way.

There are companies in the UK which specialise in rhd conversions at fairly modest prices..one of the major cost items in the conversion being the replacement of the metric electronic read out with an imperial one...so I don't think engineering considerations can explain the decision to keep it in Europe....maybe Asterix and the mob at renault felt it was too good for english consumption.

It is a great car.....heaps more fun than a standard CLIO, just as roomy for the occupants and really quite quick.

Another fan of the iron block Sierra motor?

Actually it would be interesting if the Energy OHC motor (based on the Sierra block) would fit in a 12, but I would imagine a big bulge would be required in the bonnet.

Then again, it could create a whole new industry of reconditioning 12's in AUS to create a cheap near new car. Fitted with the Energy motor (service exchange motors from France) and purchasing a whole heap of Dacia bits to replace rusty front guards, you get a near new "different" looking car! Probably all for the price of a new Hyundai :-)

Then the entrepreneurs amongst us would be able to sell body kits to make them look like this!
