Default The NEW Renault Clio 3 RS

Appearing at Frankfurt's car show later. With 197HP (144KW). One mean looking machine. Too bad I already bought the GTI 180.

    now thats tuff as!

its a great evolution in design that retains styling ques from the original.

the 172/182 is probably the most desirable "hothatch" atm_even with its staid and very conventional look (its hand grenade engine and old skool hothatch handling does most of the trash talking_ this evolution's just gonna take the clio to unsurpassable territory. and now its got steroid show to match the go!

    anyone have specs?

know when it is to be released here in oz?!

    i want one, already!!!

btw P4E, congratulations on the 180 purchase (what colour and where did you purchase it from?) you lucky bastard no wonder you wanted to get rid of the 138!

btw, just had a closer look at the photos and it doesnt look to have a visible front bonnet shut line and there is no visible shit line where the rear c pillar meets with the rear hatch_no makes no viable sense on a production car. could it be just the quality of the photos? are these photos the ready production model?

sorry my spanglish isnt very comprende! qiero il al bangio!lolz

Quality of the photos I suspect. Bonnet shut line will be above the Renault badge, (check current Megane shut line for a comparison)

Rear hatch is just above the 3rd brake light and around the taillights.

Not sure if it's the production model, the styling has certainly changed to a more aggressive style!

That looks horn!!! Are you sure it's not the clio v6? It looks wayyy pumped up for even a clio sport. Hopefully it won't gain much, or any, weight. Very nice.

Sort of has a bloated Ford Ka look about it to me, apart from the rear side window :-). And they are now inflicting the awful bonnet shutline on the new Clio as well!

It wouldn't be a mid engined V6, as there are no air intakes.

According to Renault, there will be no V6 in Clio's anymore.
The model shown may actually have a turbocharged engine (a new version that is 20% lighter) I am not sure about the capacity but it is definetly less than 2L.

    Which model KIA?

Are you trying to say Renault tried to copy their own design?

mmmmm, if this picture was Edvard Munch... i can see Kia Rio... and only just.... but it isn't... and you'd have to have very wild or vivid imagenations to see a Kia Rio in it... (DOH!) besides that, i can not honestly see how it ressembles a Kia... or any other car for that matter. The time Renault starts copying others, is the time when it is in the hands of administrators.

It's an evolution of the 172, combined with the current Renautl design cue, drawn from the Modus... great looking car! I'd try and have a more subtle bodykit, but I love it!

    Default future clio RS "magnifique"

I don't know about a Kia in design...... I supose that when your in the car design game it has to get hard after a while to bend that plastic and metal in different ways before people accuse you of making the car look like others on the market ..... I heard the engine was going to be a variation on the current engine, but turbo and a six speed box......

Have a look at this french forun for pics of the standard car......

    A mock up by autoexpress.co.uk

    Looks mean.

I hope to seating position is lower and more sporty than the 172/182. And stealing is sorted. Hopefully we'll have a car suitable for battle against the new Honda Civic Type R

    Heres the article:

Sensational New Clio RS Storms In

Forget Vauxhall's VXR, turn your back on VW's GTI - here's the car that Renault says will leave them both trailing.

Smaller, lighter and promising a bigger punch per pound than any rival, this is the Renaultsport version of the new Clio, which is set to blow the performance car market apart next year.

Built by the company that is leading the Formula One world championship, the flagship supermini will be one of a number of forthcoming hot Renaultsport - RS - hatchbacks, all of which are designed to cement the firm's reputation as a leading performance car manufacturer. Hailed as a spiritual successor to the classic Clio Williams of the Nineties and current 182 Cup model, the newcomer has been given a muscular look. But fans will be shocked to learn that Renault has opted to fit a four-cylinder engine.

Bosses have decided not to build another V6-powered Clio, but promise that the RS seen here will be capable enough for the most demanding enthusiasts.

"The all-new model will fill the gap left when the current 2.0-litre and V6 cars reach the end of production. The V6 was only ever intended to be a one-off," a spokesman explained. The new Clio was exclusively revealed by Auto Express in standard trim in issue 854, but the RS version will move the game on again.

The overall shape and details, including the front and rear lights and the windows, are all carried over, but much of the bodywork is new. And it's been developed with British buyers in mind.

The spokesman continued: "The current Renaultsport 182 was styled for conservative European markets as well as the UK. That's why it doesn't look hugely different to standard models. As 50 per cent of Clio RS models are now sold in the UK, this time designers have produced what British buyers want." And as the exclusive images in this week's mag show, the result is one of the most striking and muscular hot hatches ever seen.

The front bumper is low and wide, giving an aggressive stance. Viewed from the side, all the classic hot hatchback cues can be seen, including wide wheelarches, oversized alloy wheels and plenty of chrome details.

However, it's at the rear that Renault's designers have decided to throw caution to the wind, with a silver lower bumper section incorporating an aerodynamic undertray. Like all models to wear the Renaultsport badge, the Clio promises to offer a truly special driving experience. Power will come from a tuned 2.0-litre four-cylinder powerplant producing around 200bhp. Likely to be offered with an advanced traction control system, the car will sprint from 0-60mph in less than seven seconds, going on to a top speed approaching 150mph.

Only too aware that being fast in a straight line isn't enough, Renault's engineers will be working flat-out to ensure the Clio has the handling to match its power. Even standard versions of the new hatch are expected to prove great driver's cars, and the RS will provide more grip and agility than any of its predecessors. With official details still under wraps, no prices have been announced yet, but Renault bosses have confirmed that the hot Clio will be cheaper than the Mégane 225. Buyers of the Clio RS should expect to pay around £17,000.

As part of the launch of the new supermini, the sporting flagship will be unveiled alongside low-spec models at September's Frankfurt Motor Show. While standard versions will arrive in British showrooms at the end of this year, the RS range-topper is unlikely to hit the UK until autumn 2006 at the earliest.

    Wow!

Is this the new Nissan look to try to knock off the Mazda 2?

I must agree that it is certainly a "hothatch" and will grab a lot of attention. I dearly it helps increase the sales.....if this is what the market wants they will do well.

Can they add in reach adjustable steering wheel, both the GTi180 and RCS could benefit from this, in terms of comfortable seating positions.

    Default Change of mind?

What a car! Only yesterday I said I wasn't keen on the new design, but with the picture supplied(well done) I'm liking it already
I hope the official launch in Europe will be available to us via EVO, TOP GEAR, etc so it can convince me of upgarding.

Who now thinks Renault is still conidering pulling out of OZ?

Clio III will have the possiblity of height and reach adjustable steering, if you have the key card, and wont be height adjustable in models without it.
