    Default Help! - Diagnosis needed

    Hi,

I've just noticed my R19 TD is making a kind of whistling noise when I get past about 60mph/85kmh - the whistle stops when you come off the throttle, but changes tone if you throttle up...

Im very much a novice when it comes to cars - especially diesels.

Can anyone give a clue as to what it might be???

ummm... well i have zero experience with older Renaults, or diesels... but...you said its a Turbo Diesel right? Could it be the turbo then? And maybe it just at that sort of speed/reves the noise is more noticeable?

Certainly sounds like 'turbo whistle' to me. Some turbos are worse than others, but usually the sound of the turbo can give a whistling sound when the throttle is open, as this is when it spins the fastest because of lack of restriction in the inlet side of things.
