    Default Alpine Mirror

Found this in my an old photo albulm of my dads. Its takin in Monaco in 1976, outside the hotel he was staying in and by coincidence the Monte Carlo Rally was on and the team satying at the same hotel. Anyway see the mirrors on the side, does anyone no where i can get one like it? Ive seen one like it on a 1134 in Melbourne but no idea where to get them. Don't have to be chrome or anything as i wanna paint it the same colour as the car.

if they are a tear drop shape, some of the rolls royce models had them.
i did a search on ebay for "rolls royce" and found a pair. the auction finished soon though.

Yea I'm doin the same thing at the moment for the R8

Just trying to find some decent side mirrors that will suit the car.

I'm almost tempted to settle on the XY GT teardrop style mirror (Rare Spares do these)

However I'm not to sure what I'm gonna go with.

    or these

What are the ford ones worth? Found some ok ones on mecaparts, chrome is about 50 euros and black is about 35 euros, plus shipping on top. How big are thos XY GT ones, i think the smaller the better for an R8/10

    nah, i like the picture.
just a reminder of what the euros moved on from doing in the 20's.
large capacity, unblown, pushrods, two valves per cylinder, etc.

I reckon that either chrome or black bullet shaped mirrors suit the 8 the best, particularly if the car is basically stock and not with wide alloys, lowered and flared guards. It sort of keeps the sixties look of the car.

The XY GT mirrors I reckon would look a bit odd, as the angle of siting on the waistline varies between the basically flat XY and 45 degree R8. Without spacers between the base of the mirror and the door they could poke out at an odd looking angle. Is the base of the XY GT mirror the same shape as the normal XA/B/C/Esky/Cortina mirrors? As they do have spacers between the mirror and the door which may be able to be adapted to angle them better on the R8.

Nice pic of the Falc though, but it needs 5 slots instead of the chromies :-)
