    Default Renault Fluence

It uses the Nissan 350Z platform and 3.5L V6.

No it is still front drive, it would be the same powertrain layout as used in the Vel Satis which also uses the Nissan VQ motor.

Why would anyone want to do a damn fool thing like that?

    Of course it's not ;-)

And what would be the problem if they did go RWD? It'd certainly be something different in Drift King circles :-).

It wouldn't be anything special for Renault. They must be the only manufacturer to have made front, mid and rear engined cars as well as front, rear and 4wd models, in all configurations of FF, FR, RR, F4, M4.

No problem at all! I wouldn't be surprised if they went 4WD, but Renault making a modern RWD would be a bit of a shock.

I'm not sure if that snazzy interior would have been possible with a transmission tunnel, unless they reinvented the Fregate multi-uni joint driveshaft.

Think "feature" transmission tunnel clad in brushed aluminium (carbon fibre seems so yesterday now!!) :-)

Isn't the Maxima FWD? I assume it's this drivetrain.

Umm, well yeh, but I sort of had excluded commercial vehicles, thought that was obvious. Otherwise we open up the whole truck/tractor debate as well I guess...
