    Default Caravelle R1133 year 1965

After accelerating in first gear and suddenly taking foot off accelerator, it jumps into neutral.
This has been an issue since buying the car a few years ago.
    Appreciate any assistance!

(PS having it resprayed at the moment)

Easy fix if the gearbox is out. The selector shaft has little indents where a ballbearing is pushed into by a strongish little spring. That spring has most probably broken.
When the gearbox is stripped and the selector shafts removed it can be changed. I have gone to a gearbox shop with the sample and the guy allowed me to scratch in their bin and I replaced mine successfully with similar springs out of a who knows what car.

hi Arak,i would first check for excessive play in gearshift linkage, especially at gearbox end, then engine and gearbox mounts(centre top gearbox also) for possible for and aft movement in drive line on acceleration and braking. just a couple of thoughts...... jim

I'm not being facetious, but I'd just drive carefully in first. If it is that detent spring, which seems likely, you won't damage the gearbox. I suspect mine is going the same way, but I'd need a much bigger reason for pulling the car apart so thoroughly.

    Just a thought....
