    Default R8G rocker cover gasket

I recently replaced the head gasket on my R8G motor in my 1969 A110 which had failed, along with the coolant bottle, during Targa High Country last November. The gasket for the rocker cover is cork and unlike the Fuego, the rocker cover does not have an inner and outer lip to hold the gasket in place. I am thinking that smearing the rocker cover lip with ultra blue silicone to hold the gasket in place might be the trick and then carefully place on the head when set. Anyone have any ideas?

    Hi Bazzamac,

All my G engines gets a rocker cover gasket that I cut myself from a roll of 2mm cork. I then clean the seating surface with Brake Clean and start at the one end with superglue. It holds good and survives multiple removals.

On the racecar up to 10 -15 times. It is stuck to the cover and I don't use anything on the head.

I have a Record alloy rocker cover that comes with a thin 'o' ring that fits into a slot on the R8 head. It leaks....

I use the standard R8 thick rubber rocker cover gasket and, just like Frans, glue it onto the rocker cover and leave the head face clean and dry. Works perfectly. In my case this means it works for 5 years+!

    Cheers
