Default West Coast RER day and invites !!!

We have had an illustrious guest visit the West, FRANS came over to visit Harry, so we thought we would get together the RER (Rear Engine Renaults) team, and a few invites to show Frans how we do it this side of the island. So after a very hot week yesterday we had a welcome change of weather for our Morning Coffee/Tea. The pictures tell a thousand words. Although I think there were more than a thousand words spoken during the days discussion on paint , body, engines and tyres.

We all had a great morning, and it was so nice to see Frans again. Coffee and Cake is always good, with good cars.

Shame that the attachments come up as invalid for me. I am sure you all enjoyed Frans visit and wisdom.

Ten thousand words, I'd say... A good morning was had by all that is for sure.

I might have to clean up my engine bay a bit after all those immaculately presented ones. I'm sure I cleaned it up last clutch change but, on reflection, that was 15 years ago. Still, it's clean where it matters I suppose. And I did polish the bumpers after all...

I'm still marvelling that the most common model there was the A110 - two of them to one of each of all the others. (For Sunroof's benefit, one 17TL and one 17 Gordini, so I reckon that is two models!) I'd only ever seen two Alpine-Renault A110 examples in 40 years until 5-10 years ago, then they started appearing in Oz in larger numbers. There are four or five in Perth these days.

Thanks to Ray for the initiative and for producing coffee and cakes to boot. Happily there were leftovers, at least when we had to move on!

I think its called "patina" John

I think you have a very nice R8 John that has been well used and has plenty of great stories to tell, after all isn't it what ownership of these cars is all about.

Nice photos and video...pretty pissed off that I missed it....and the A110 was literally in a "workshop" about 1 km away. Big thanks to Ray for popping over after the meet and getting the A110 running so I could drive it away....back to Ray's for some finishing touches. Really appreciate it!

Hi John....yes they have done a good job with both front and rear screen, so theoretically the car is now waterproof!! We are close to the final product now. Ray will fit a new pair of perspex light covers...they will require some careful trimming as he did with Sam's car.

Most years, we've had a French Car Day and a Classic Car Day and a few other shows, so we try to get cars together. Happily, the Classic Cars and Coffee mornings work well, providing someone gets there early and reserves a few places so we are together. We've 5-6 4CVs going these days, so 2-3 of them often turn up too. I took the R8 on this occasion. Isn't it remarkable what is here - if we look at a map of the world, Perth is clearly the most remote capital and yet.....

    Cheers

I'm glad to hear that. I must get the glass man's name from you, as my R8 front screen rubber has started to split.

Those light covers are a bit of black magic to get right I suspect. Sam's look pretty good.

Thanks Col. Yes, patina goes a fair way but I'm seeing lack of paint and no oil leaks to protect the metal.... I don't want to paint the whole engine bay area for every reason (including too much work) so I'm pondering what to do around the base of the radiator panel on both sides of it. A light spray with fishoil would give preservation but not much else. I really ought to pull out the panel but I do prefer to avoid dismantling things I don't have to touch. Perhaps when the water pump lets go (it's decades old) is the time to pull it all out and get into the surfaces a bit. The car is used most days and is under cover.

The guys were talking every 4 months, and remember not all cars were present. I was missing 3 off of my list. And I can steel some French and Fantastic cars as well.

I reckon we got about half the likely takers, in Renaults, as some folk have more than one. Maybe 2/3 of the people who appear at events. If you get half to two-thirds of the cars 2-3 times per year that'd be satisfactory. After all, we meet at CC&C and other events too and there are other club meetings like SIVA and (not quite often enough, being my fault) the 4CV Register. So, all good.

I wonder where the Dauphines are hiding... We have a couple of R4 owners identified so they are covered. No 16s (back to you Ray...) and Keith appears with his R12 sometimes.

The car arrived earlier this year. It's very nice! Go and look at the Facebook page of RCCA and/or of the 4CV Register and come to Classic Cars and Coffee, as it sometimes comes there too.

    OK my final entry.
I want to thank all the guys for the selection of pictures, just some great shots. This is a selection of individual shots of "some" of the cars. Individual shots of cars , and not all were included, as we had a fantastic collection of cars. Well done everybody.

Bigger next time. I know Frans had a good time. he talked with everybody and had a good technical eye under every engine cover that was opened. Thank you for opening our RER Day.........
