Said to be a genuine R1135 car, bar the R5 Alpine engine.

My question would be where is it? Right hand drive but which state is the number plate from? The car next to it looks like a prewar Renault Vivasport? Are there any in that condition in Australia? Although it is cheap there is still a bit of work to do. I guess a 4 speed gearbox. Still could be a nice enough car. Although it doesn't seem to be, if no one knows of it, is it a scam?

The picture of the booth have the watermark from the Finnish G-forum so a profile for it and its owner is likely to be found there.

The ad says South Australia post code 5214. One of us is going to have to enquire about it to put us all at ease. Please don't let me do that because I'll buy it.

Just a guess, but I’d say it’s chopper Bob’s car. It was a South African Car (notice the white reflectors on the front) that Mark Taylor acquired. My memory is faded but I think Mark brought it into the country. He sold it to Bob (his long time friend), and shortly afterwards the engine lunched itself. Mark bought the Alpine engine (off Adam Spence if I recall) and gave it to Bob as a “make good”. I think I may have donated a flywheel to the cause as well. Bob’s had the car in SA since then, and it sounds like it’s had little use.

Pretty sure it’s a genuine 1135 but not one of the 60 Oz cars. I don’t recall any details of the transmission though sorry.

I just did a google picture search for the mentioned booth picture and found the g-forum profile where it is from. It belongs to aLytton Coomer in South Africa posted about 2009. Does actually seem to be the same car although there is some differences.

Yes, that is the Chopper Bob car. Ex-ZA, not one of the Australian assembled R1135s.

I was going to say, the license plate shows the South Australian emblem between the letters and numbers. Kinda difficult to make out with the poor quality of the shots if you've never seen it in real life, but if you know what it looks like, you can definitely recognise it.

I spoke to the seller a couple of days ago. Tells me the car is from South Africa. Has been in Australia around 8 years. It came to Australia with standard motor but shortly after arriving in aus it went to shit. He hasn’t stil got the remains of the original motor. Tells me it has 5 speed and all other correct 1135 parts. He’s done a full rebuild of mechanical components although brakes need work, the gearbox was rebuilt in Victoria. He also says it has been repainted at some time in South Africa before it was imported, he thinks it was stripped down and gone right over at the time. Says there are a couple of places the paint is in need of attention. I spoke to him Monday, and he told me he had somebody looking at it that afternoon.

Lytton Coomer is well known for succesfully racing a R8G in South Africa, though I cannot say for sure if this is his ex. race car.

This car was on the market a year or two ago but the were no serious takers if I recall correctly. Assuming it is the same car, it was imported from ZA by a fellow some of us know well in Sydney and later sold to CB near Adelaide. He had an engine failure due to coolant loss through a corrosion hole in the water pump housing (beware!!) and there was a long saga about the engine rebuild.

I'd guess the car is a genuine R1135, if "adjusted" a bit and a good acquisition for someone aware of what he/she is buying. So tempting...
