This was hidden in the back of the paddock at "Circuit Park Zandvoort!"

I'm in the Netherlands till, oh tomorrow actually, so I had a bit of a look around at how the Europeans do it.

It ws a round of their touring car championships, and heck! People everywhere!

The cicruit itself looks great! Banks where they should be, a nice right hander over a blind crest into a tighening, banked right hander, and access for the we punter was pretty good too. The circuit is built on the beach, and sand dunes enclose it. You are free to wonder around.

The europeans have a much better idea about Beer also. Drinks avialable at every corner, yet no one was trashed and despite being in the sand, people where taking there garbage with them.

Sadly I didn't get to see this at noise, the schedule preferenced entertainment in the middle of the day with the racing streched at the begining and end.

Also get yourself to the Netherlands everyone. It's beautiful!

I had intended to look up where the R12 / R16 Shop was located, but thought better of it

    Oh! Pictures of the punters!

Note the teenagers whom where there watching. We don't get that at home.

But yes totally a beach, and totally a great place. They are hosting the F1 in 2020, that would be a hoot.

I would imagine the sand would make the track slippery.

    Nice place, nice people...

Track hire large mobile vacuum cleaners for race meetings. They work all night over race weekends.

    Nice one Bowie, enjoy.

I remember going to the 1981 F1 GP at Zandvoort. What a hoot. My mate and I thought it was a strange but wonderful place to have a GP. Sand everywhere and blowing across the track during the race. Alain Prost street-ed it in the works Renault car from Pole to flag and I think Renault also got second. Alan Jones was in the top 5 or 6 also in his Williams. Them were the days....

Just checked on the Inter-web and it was Prost (Renault) first, Nelson Piquet (Brabham) 2nd and Alan Jones (Williams) 3rd...
Ah.. They don't make 'em like that anymore.

It really is a strange and wonderful place.

It's quite a good facility if I'm honest (compared to my place)

I'm very jelous of there large paddock areas outside of the main pits, I could really have some fun with that much flat area

And the natural banks created by the dunes, just perfect.

What a spectacle that would have been in '81 with those drivers!

    Onya Bowie. Doing any cycling?

I've sat in Alan Jones' 1980 FW07 a model I think was still current in '81, but updated.

No cycling sadly. I used up all my time / was enjoying simply walking around the place.

The cycling culture there is indeed great. Just wonderful. Oh and the infrastructure is simply great. Makes it so easy.

Oh some more images now the luggage is unpacked.

Not kidding about the hills, In AUS we would have barriers and safety fences and all sorts of crap, these people just deal with it.

And what do you have on track before your premier touring car event? Well drifting of course,

Again this sort of stuff would not be programmed before a "race" event but they make it work here. They had clean up sweepers (3x) just cleaning the muck on the braking zones. That was enough. Oh I'd like to convince my team that this would be suitable

Points for guessing what this is? Yes there was some kind of scoop attached here on the back of this Alpine. Sadly this is the only image that survived, I was fumbling with a new camera

But thats ok, because Saab's are cool!

    So the programming for the competitive rounds at the event where;
-Old touring cars (these things above)
    -Modern Touring cars (TCR)
-SuperKarts (Yes just like home with Rotax engines and stuff)
-Formula Maxx (3500cc engined single seaters, including older F1 cars, Indy cars, Formula Nippon, A1GP, etc etc)
    -MX5 Cup (modern MX5's)

    But because spectators don't care for any of that they had;
-Max Verstappen doing demonstration laps and burn outs in last seasons V10 Redbull F1 car
    -Guys Drifting
-Whilst the guys where drifting Max was in an open double decker bus waving at everyone.
-Peugeot 107 / Cit C1 / Toyota Argus Womans race / destruction derby, complete with podium presentations including very tight fitting race suits and long blond hair going everywhere..
-LMP2 / 3 demonstration. 4 x cars just cruising around making Le Man car noises.

And yes all that entertainment was packed between 1000-1430 with the competitive racing classes from 0800-1000 and 1430-1600.

Such a better way of running, what is to them, a state race meeting. The difference is of course we usually have 7, 8 competitive classes we need to jam into a day. No wonder why ppl don't care for it.

Anyway. Now my battle begins to make my park more Euro in programming

That would have been a great way to end a fortnight abroad, sadly the coffers are looking pretty empty. Back to reality.
