Anti-sink valve has failed - it'll rise up when the engine is started (or it should anyway...).

Is the torsion bar on these keyed so it only goes in one way, or is it splined and can be turned around to lift it off the ground?

If the latter, I suspect the restorer hasn't got it right else the bar is twisted.

They are splined and can be incorrectly assembled... although, depending on how much weight is in the back may just be overloaded... I had the cops pull me up one night on the way home from bright because the back of my 16ts was on its bump stops and looked like that. I had 3 people in the back seat and a boot load of luggage.

Well, with no passengers and only some spares in the trunk I think the fuel tank must be filled with Plutonium. Get your Geiger counter out at inspection time.

The R16/TS handbook specifies the maximum and minimum suspension heights for both front and rear. Before doing the Darwin trip in 1970 we altered the cars height to the maximum settings front and rear and filled the cars up for the trip. Both cars were only a 100 lb or so under their GVM (we put them on a weigh-bridge) and we suffered no rear suspension problems. The front suspension was a different story!
