    Hi,

I'm not sure if I am a pain in my own neck and I don't want to ruin other members pride and joy, but through the years I have noticed and learnt that a photo can be very deceiving. A car can be beautiful on a photo and when you go to buy it, it is a completely different story. So see this as one of my "thinking out loud" moments.

The car above is in a very good original state but the paint job is not up to standard. Maybe it only needs a cut and polish or maybe it needs a respray, it is hard to say because it might be a metallic paint and has no clear coat over it. I've learnt to look at reflections on photos to judge the spray job. Mainly because the paint on a vehicle is always the 1st impression and is very important and many times it is the most expensive as well.

The comparison is easy to see what I mean on 2 almost identical cars. The first one looks good but the paint finish gives you a dull reflection where as the second photo gives you a detailed reflection.

I wanna know what the thing on the bonnet is, a backward air scoop or brake light ? Look wrong either way, just saying while we’re picking at the car

High LED stop lamp by Hella.
Fitted by a previous owner prior to my ownership.
My recommendation to the new owner was to remove it and weld up the holes if it was getting a respray. Thatís what I would of done.

I'm surprised so many of these good looking cars are still about given their tendency to snap oversteer to go into the bush backwards.
I saw several of them in ditches when i was a teenager in Austria.

I reckon there might be more of them than bog standard R8s these days. It's quite remarkable. And yes, they are nicely styled.

Re snap oversteer: tyres and pressures and failed swing axle limit straps.... Not that swing axles are perfect, but you still have to work quite hard to get into trouble in my experience.

    Cheers

I can count at least 4 RCCA members who have owned this car in my memory. Most of the modifications (done quite tastefully I might add) were done by an elderly owner in the 90's who was a retired engineer from memory (Hermann). Ironically, it has twice been the RCCA presidential vehicle of choice.
