Only 18k km?! This is basically a new car! I'd have that for a grand.

More importantly, how the heck did that get here?

Would you be able to register and/or drive the thing here?
Apart from the low-back seats I'm betting it doesn't have the reinforcing in the doors and other mandatory ADR requirements for a car this age.
Could explain the low mileage although with a 5 digit odometer it could be 118K or 218K or any variation thereof.
The condition would suggest a 18K mileage though or a very good restoration.
If nothing else it would be an excellent parts car for the money or could be converted to RHD.

Like Schlitzaugen said, how did it get here.
To transport one from Romania would be more than the car's worth.

    Cheers

That auction is Lloyds Auctiosn selling off Gosford Classic Car Museum cars. There are number of, for us unusual cars, several Gaz (Russian), Tatras, DKW and even Floride and Dauphine Gordini. Some 12 Days to run. The red Floride is currently at $13,500.

I've got my eye on that Tatra 603. What a magnificent beast.

The Dacia is pretty cool too. I'd love to rock up at a FCD just to watch everyone say WTF?

They have a really interesting GAZ and Volga too, and an Eastern Germany Wartburg (two stroke) as well. Those were really cool as police cars.

Wonder if they had a reserve? Sometimes they run cars throught more than once at Lloyds if they don't make the reserve at the first go. Not sure what their reserve policy is.

The winning bid was subject to “vendor acceptance”, not quite the same as a no reserve auction but similarly as deceptive as their original business plan in my opinion - although the detail was on the Lloyds auction site, not theirs from memory.

Wow that's double what I was bidding too.

I went into the weekend as the highest bidder and when I checked emails on Monday morning all I got was "you have been outbid".
But I've got $1000 worth of freight to factor in so I hope the new owner enjoys it.

Proves one thing though, a Dacia 1304 is worth something so it's not such a silly idea spending 20k restoring mine.

Anyone know what the Tatra 603 went for?
Last I looked it was at $29,000.

I was in it up to $20,000 but then my brain took over and told my heart not to be so stupid.

The uglyness is what makes them beautiful. The V8 engine is a bonus.

When I saw the cars at the Museum last December, the Dauphine was advertised for $15,000 , the Dacia for $12,000 and the Floride for $29,000. So the Dacia and Dauphine buyers seem to have got real bargains.

During the war the occupying German officer corps in Czech developed a liking for them because of their speed and engineering

So many killed themselves because they couldn't handle swing axle/rear V8 combination that they were forbidden to drive them.

Suppose that one could say that they did their bit for the resistance

That's true, they were called Czechoslovakia's secret weapon. Some say they killed more German officers than the Czech army did.
