I have one in bits if you're game to put it back together.

I assume it was in good working condition judging by the wreck I removed it from.

I have a NG3 gearbox out of a Fuego. $300 plus freight. Just sent one to Victoria freight cost $170 so imagine about same to Newcastle. PM me.

Got one out of a R18, later type linkages.
Work perfectly, no need to strip.

Ok so I have the Box from canberra from a fuego

and it has occurred to me the bell housing and rear cover / linkages are somewhat different to the that fitted to my 25 GTX.

Is it going to be a simple matter of changing the bell housing and rear casing and linkages ?
me thinks a can of worms is imminent

I can't imagine how swapping the bell housing could be complex, or how the rear casing could be easy.
A quick trip up that learning curve ahead of you.
    Good luck, Jo

It sounds like what you have got is an NG3-000 or NG3-064 from a Fuego (Or an NG1 from an 18 which looks similar with a different bellhousing). There will have lower final drive, and other, gear ratios than those used in the NG3 used in the 25.

I can't recall what variation your 25GTX is (B29B or B29E), if it is an auto trans conversion or what – or what gearbox is already in the car. If unknown, the identity tag is located behind one of the rear (selector shaft end) cover bolts to the RHS. This will tell you what is already in there, and if it has been changed over the last 30 years. The Fuego gearbox ratios really won't suit the long legged nature of the 25, and the linkage will require stuffing around with to make it work.

Hi Simon many thanks for your advice

The replacement transaxle was from a fuego with NG3 064
the box in the 25 (B29B) is a NG3 but obviously a different variant looks like I jumped in too quick here
    Lesson learned

What is the difference between 000 and 064?
