    Default Disc Brake Dauphine ???

Who has done a disc brake conversion on the front of a Dauphine ??

I believe early R8 hubs are the same as Dauphine, what year/model ???

I presume, once you have the bubs on all the rest is a bolt on, from a late R8/10 ???

All I have done in the past (5) we changed the front cross member to R10. But this client wand the rest standard, as it is a very good '62, and can be converted back.

    Thanks,
    Ray

Ray I helped a chap with an early Floride do this conversion and we used a standard R10 hub but had to machine the outer bearing recess deeper to allow the bearing to sit in 5mm deeper, this is because the standard Floride stub axle is 5mm shorter than the R10. I assume the Dauphine will be the same because they share the same chassis platform.

    Mr Floride,
Yes this will be the next step, but I was hoping there were some early R8 hubs around to start with.

    Thank you,
    Ray

My 4CVG was first converted to Dauphine drums front & rear (& 4-speed D-G transaxle) then front discs from the R1130 956cc R8, then R10 discs as part of a front cross-member swap.

I think that my R1130 discs have gone now (to Colin Rose for Kermit years ago) but I gather that, although they were basically a bolt-off/bolt-on & the best option, R10 discs can be made to work with the 4CV/Dauphine kingpin front suspension. I would directly inquire of the 4CV register people as the conversions are common.

    cheers! Peter

I used to have a pair of early hubs but donated them a while back for this exact purpose. The 4CV and Dauphine stub axles are the same as early R8 and the calliper brackets use exactly the same 4 boltholes as the drum brake backing plates.

Late Dauphines had disc brakes, but not in Oz.

Several Register folk have done the conversion and, exactly as stated above, seem either to have used early R8 (R1130) hubs or machined the later type to get the bearing spacing right. Later the R10s (? later R8s too) had slightly longer stub axles, hence the hub difference - it is a few mm I gather.
