So why didnít the Japanese coordinate with the French and have him arrested by them seeing heís a French citizen?.
It would eliminate the sense that this is more about a power grab and there would be some sort of legitimacy to this hijacking .

That's not how any country works. Japanese crime = Japanese court. We are no different.

The French police were informed by Renault. Perhaps they chatted with their opposite numbers in Japan. We don't really know.

Imagine an American ratings agency/investment banking ceo being treated this way back in 2008........that would have been more justified.

In many jurisdictions not just here. And conversely, one can receive actual money without paying tax on it until later years (correctly I mean) in some circumstances. But there are many complications to this.

However, unfortunately Japanese law was made by America in the American image.

    Hi,
As I read it, the allegation is not that he should have paid tax on the post retirement benefits. It is that he should have disclosed them in statutory filings. His lawyers will have to argue that they were proposals, and not firm commitments by Nissan.

    Hi,
Not sure about this, but I believe Japan has its own legislature, and makes its own laws?
The USA administration of Japan ended almost 70 years ago.

Whilst I was alive! The Japanese legal system was overhauled by the Americans prior to their departure. Not much ever changed.

The denial of Ghosn's human rights never stops in Japan, nowhere else in the world would anyone suspected of financial impropriety be treated so badly. ......

Not so sure about that. Executions in China..... Not that Japan has much to be proud about in this particular case. As I've said before, I'm glad I'm not in CG's position.

John, I did not make comparisons with China or anywhere else. My comments were simply about the draconian restraints put on a suspect by the Japanese legal system, which is able to keep someone incommunicado in jail for 108 days simply by adding a fresh charge every 22 days. It is a hostage system without peer in modern society....................

Japanese face a loss of face in the exposure of their inhumane methods to achieve a high guilty plea rate - something will have to give or that WILL be the inevitable outcome. Perhaps they hope for Ghosn to give up life itself to satisfy this cruel and unrelenting process, then they can wash their hands and rid themselves of shame.

It's a huge sum involved, not petty shoplifting. My understanding is that if he fails to confess and is convicted he need not expect an easy sentence. The forensic accountants will have been all over this.

The CEO of the largest automobile manufacturing conglomerate paid almost as much as an American banking thief bailed out by the taxpayers?.
