    Default Gordini and Matra outing

    Hi All,

About 2 months ago me and my son got an invitation from a photographer to do a photo shoot with the 2 cars for a Classic Car Calendar. We made an appointment and met him at a spot and from there we went to 3 different places to do the photos. Unfortunately I was negligent again and if it wasn't for my son we wouldn't have had any photos. He is almost as bad as me because he took photos on the one spot only and nothing at the other places.

The photographer couldn't give us any info because he is only supplying the photos. We do not know if the pictures will be in the calendar or which calendar or any other info. We don't even know if it is going to be in NZ or elsewhere.

This photo is from another time at the Caffeine and Classics here in Auckland.

    Regards, Frans.

I can vouch for the driveability of both great cars. I want a Jet....

Maybe because this one I took him for drive is the Jet 6. That is when they dropped the "D" in the name.

I could, maybe should have said "a Djet or a Jet." Frans' car is badged as a JET 6 and, if I recall, yours is a DJET 5. I wonder why they dropped the "D"?

Nope. I haven't ever sold a car & my attitude is that I buy them because I like them, the liking doesn't pall & each of the four toys (Djet, 4CVG, R8 & Moke) shall be kept until I die or it dies (possibly in the same untoward event).

Each of the toys has one reason for existence: fanging around corners on country roads; that process is made more enjoyable (& less dangerous to me & various members of my & other species - feral cyclists & wombats come to mind) when one is deeply aware of the car's behaviour & such awareness grows with experience).

Actually, that "never sell" claim is not quite right as, were I to become bedridden or otherwise unable to drive, then I'd have to sell. I have already given one person "first-refusal" on the Djet as a piece of estate planning.

As for names, Bonnet & Matra varied things to a silly extent. The name was always a reference to jet aircraft but the story goes that Bonnet wanted the pronunciation of the name to have a harder anglicised sound for the 'J' rather than the softer French pronunciation & added the 'D' to force that pronunciation shift. My guess is that when he went bust & his major creditor Matra (an aerospace firm remember) took over, it wanted the Jet reference to be more obvious (they didn't make missiles for djet aircraft but for jet aircraft). There was also silly stuffing about with Roman & Arabic numerals. My beastie is a Djet V & Frans's is a Jet 6.

    cheers! Peter

    Just joking.

But I do have the same philosophy about selling cars and for the same reasons.

A very dedicated Simca owner in Brisbane has one of those. He has maybe 6 Simcas and various other interesting machines, including a 15 or 17. All of the vehicles I have seen are in very good fettle, the 1200S included.

Yeah, I think I know the car. Dedicated, indeed. Those were never sold here, right? Prices overseas aren't that bad, but slap on shipping and all the paperwork here, and you're better off moving house overseas.
