Don't normal generic 51/4 sealed or semi sealed beams fit? They fit R17's. There are at least several different bulb/wire fittings but other than that I just got them at a spare parts shop.

Cibie Z Beams in 5.25 (provided you are talking R12, and not Round eye R10 for example) or any other replacement sealed beam should fit as Sunroof mentioned. I would have thought you could get those at a motor factors like Halfords or similar?

    What are we missing here?

    What am I missing?

R12 have rectangle headlights, R17 have round (concave same as round eye 10) Virage have round sealed beams available anywhere.

round headlight 12s were never sold in UK. OP is in UK. So car must be an oddball in UK, either a US spec 12 or a Virage?? (Or not a 12.)
Or maybe the OP wants to convert a UK spec 12 to round headlights, so would need a kit to convert rectangle to round?

Benno can you give us a bit more detail please?

The OP's car maybe a Dacia 1310 which did have round headlights.

There is plenty of them on Ebay UK

The fact that he is based in the UK, and we don't know exactly what he has!

simca1100 - wasn't there also a 1.4 R12 (before we got the virage) which also had round lights?
But as COL mentioned, he could have anything. He might even be calling a Renault 10, a Renault 12 - that's been known to happen before.

Yes we had the 1.4 before the Virage but it had rectangular headlights, I think it was in 1978 when the first Virage came out with the twin round headlights

Yes that's right. 1.4 had rec lights only the Virage had round. Reason being.

Back then a survey was taken and they found people could remember names and not numbers. Commodore instead of HX etc so Renault Australia came up with an Aussie R12. They took the Mk 2 (1.4 to us) and fitted off the shelf sealed beams and called it Virage.

    Hi all,

firstly many thanks for all the replies, as guessed I have imported a lhd 1310 to the uk. Rather than putting tape over the headlights I wanted to fit some rhd replacements.

    thanks

    Ha! Any pictures?

Any reason why you didn't go for a proper R12 from France? They wouldn't have scrapped all of them?

Strangely enough, I have seen a locally registered RHD R12 wagon in baby blue in the mid nineties in Eastern Europe. Not sure where it had come from but most likely the UK, I guess? Sweden changed to LHD in the early seventies, if I remember correctly, so could have been a Swedish car as well? Looked very nice.

To be fair I didn’t realise Halfords would sell replacement headlights. I collect eastern bloc cars so the Dacia seemed to fit more than the Renault.

I also like the round headlight cars, I don’t like the lights on the original 12

    Nice pictures. Thank you.

    I get it, fair enough.

You wouldn't happen to have a Trabant? Those are all the rage now. A station wagon if possible.

benno79 I have a Dacia 1310 here in Australia I'm slowly (very slowly) restoring. It has the same front as yours. Mine is a 4x4 pickup and I'm the opposite of you, I wanted it to look like a Renault 12 ute so I've put rectangle lights in it.

I think I still have the originals, it has an Australian compliance plate so I presume the round lights are right hand drive. I'll have a look over the weekend.

That is awesome. I wouldn't mind a Trabant myself. Got to drive one a couple of times. Testimony that you don't even need to start with a piece of shit if you're willing to polish long enough.
