Default Need Help Finding Trim Items for Renault 15

    Hi

    I have a Renault 15TS.

I needs some new outside mirrors and trim for the top of the rear bumper.

Does any body know where I can source suitable parts from?

I've also noticed that sometimes it jumps out of reverse. Do I need a new gearbox?

    Regards

    Alan

Thanks very much, that's great help.

What do you mean by chrome plastic trim?

    Regards

The chrome plastic on the top of the rear bumper is usually destroyed by our Aussie sun. I have seen them for sale on French sites but would be frightened by the freight cost. What type of mirrors do you have? My 15TS had spring back arms but I could only find that type on the 73 models although they are almost the same as P76 and some Minis. While mine was being prepared for painting we found that the doors already have threaded holes for new mirrors. I was able to buy new ones of a similar type to Peugeot 504 and Renault 12. Correct brand is CIPA made in France but also there are imitations made in Asia.

As GeeDee said. yes there are threads/holes as standard. I managed to buy good doors and guards from angru in melbourne and with the original mirrors which just bolt on.

Would you like me to look at my old mirrors? They were very similar to CIPA. Condition maybe questionable but the last owner bought them new.

    Geedee and Shoji

Thankyou very much for your replies.

My car does have original mirrors, just cheap plastic universal mirrors and the chrome finish it starting to go. I want to respray the car and bring it up in appearance.

Shoji if you can check what you've got and what condition they are in.

Otherwise I'' either by from Renault 12 Shop or if I can find the CIPA mirrors.

Thanks you very very much for your support and help.

    Regards

    Alan

For the bumper strip, I’ve just ordered a length of 30mm chrome strip that has an adhesive backing on it from eBay. I’ll report back when it arrives.

Early 90s Fairlanes (and maybe LTDs?) had a similar profile strip on the rear bumper. These are probably hard to find though in good nic.

Will look up where I purchased my mirrors but you are welcome to my old ones. Bump strips can also be wrapped in chrome according to a tradie who applies strips to cars, he claimed.

    Thanks for your reply.

I'm very interested to find out how you go with the Chrome strip. Please keep me informed.

These are the same style of mirrors as my 15 but I could not find an exact replacement anywhere. They must have only been on the 1973 models as other years seem to have ones the same as Aussie assembled 12,s and Peugeot 504,s. Also seen on P76 and Minis were ones like those in the photos but hinged at the front rather than the back of the mirror base.

Happy to report I’ve found a suitable replacement for the chrome trim across the rear bumper of a 15/17.

    https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com.au%2Fulk%2Fitm%2 F162788030095

The 30mm chrome trim arrived from eBay. As you can see it’s only a couple of mm narrower than the original trim. It has two strips of double sided adhesive on the under side and a protective film on the chrome finish.

I decided to apply it directly to the plastic bumper rather than the base of the original plastic strip. Applying it directly meant it fitted snug under the chrome side panels of the bumper. It’s also a nice flush fit with the bumper itself.

Very happy with the result, let’s see how it lasts!

Thanks for the link but I can't seem to get to the site that sells the trim.

    Is it a shop?

I might too. I'm sick of seeing the dull one on the back of mine
it's the same stuff so it seems it will only last a short time
Marine stainless profiles are also a thought but never looked into

Will be interesting to see how long it lasts.

At $10 a length though you could buy a few and update it every couple of years!
