Here you have new hub caps:

But I don't know if they send to Australia. And probably much cheaper to buy old ones if someone have them.

    R8 hubcaps-r8-griffith-hi-res.jpg Alas, not R8.

Der Franzose posts to Oz, as do several French suppliers who also sell them. Minimum postage tends to be Euro 40, so best to buy more than hubcaps to spread the postage more widely across the goodies.

    Cheers

Need to clarify here I think. The OP I thought had an R8G which potentially has different hubcaps to the normal or early R8 hubcaps (and Caravelle) aren’t they?

Caravelle one’s are certainly available from a number of o/s suppliers as John mentioned.

I have a bit of a collection of Renault hubcaps with the centre hole - pls let me know the exact dimensions of the ones you need

I was given them by someone who was doing a clean-out, so no cost to you other than postage.

    BP

ps they are a bit 'rough'

I am sorry not to get back to you sooner, busy
I am not sure of the size but should be about 240mm.
They should have a single ridge towards the outside.
Doesn't matter about being rough time and patience fixes that.

Again, the OP needs to clarify what type of hubcap he has or wants. The Frandose link above is the hubcap from the standard R8's (R1130 and R1132) and Caravelles. The question was asked does the Gordini (presumably an R1135) use this type of hubcap or the later R10 style?

A single ridge towards the outside sounds like an R10 hubcap to me - will probably fit, but may or may not be what was originally on there.

I would buy a set of the R8 ones from one of the Euro suppliers like above if it was me.

You need to measure the diameter of the seating face on the wheel. The R8 ones are 10-15 mm wider in diameter than the later rims accommodate. They fit but the rubber seal is in thin air outside the mating face. Syd Middleton and I discovered this after decades of experience when I was at his shed scrounging rims and not one of them matched R8 hubcaps properly.

Of course, the later wheels, made in Oz, are stronger and better than the earlier French ones, not least because they are safety rims.

I don't remember ever seeing hubcaps on an R8 Gordini. Must go and check the old photos....

R8G (Jason) has an early R8G (67 R1135 I think) which has the R8 style hubcaps. I believe that’s how it came when it was originally sold in Tasmania but can’t confirm.

There is a photo of it presently as the group page on RCCA Facebook page taken last Sunday at Eastern creek.

Thanks for that. The early hubcaps look sort of OK on the later wheels as they slightly overlap the seating ridge. It takes a serious anorak to notice, I'd add.....
