Goodness, the two configurations in parallel, if you'll forgive the geometric pun. I didn't know that. Sure, the R5 was two consecutive series.

I forgot about those, I was only thinking about the front engine FWD versions.

So so jealous... Always wanted one, could never justify importing one from the UK or NZ though.

Awesome car, awesome buy for $5K!!!!!

I have the non turbo automatic TXE version of that under a tarp on the farm - even with the NA 2.2 and a 4 sp auto they are a zippy thing. Very light and nicely balanced thing.

Got it. Done the first 200ks no issues. First problem I noticed is no thermostat or stuck open thermostat because it was bloody cold and the hot air coming in wasnít enough for my short sleeves.

I will update as times go.

More pics required. More stories of torque steering awesomeness required.

More plans about how you intend to sell it to me really cheap and put it on a boat to Oz....

If the Labour long weekend starts like this??????

Standing in the right turn only lane waiting for the green arrow, this woman decides that she doesn't want to go right any more and that she has to go into the straight only lane. How will she do that? Easy... slam into reverse and put your foot down 'cause there isn't much time left. Look into the mirror if anybody is standing behind me? No why should I do that, I have a SUV, big and strong. Bitch!

That same thing happened to me four times. If you look around you when driving you can usually tell drivers who are not aware of what is happening just outside their field of view, as if their car ended where their vision ends. Avoid like the plague. They will change lanes on top of you, will turn into your car, reverse into you and so on. Take her to the cleaners, I say. If their insurance pays, import a good bumper from France, have it painted in the correct colour at the most expensive place you can find and buy every single nut and bolt from Renault if you can. That'll cost a fortune and hopefully give her something to think about next time she reverses.

Maybe the other way is get it written off under insurance, buy the car back under salvage and start again?

That used to be possible here, but they changed the write-off laws and repairable writeoffs became a bit of a pain (if not impossible) to deal with.

I had someone reverse into my car and break a fibreglass bumper and an indicator. I bought and had the parts shipped from the UK at extortionate prices and the bumper professionally repainted here (it was s/h) at the most expensive place I could find. I did all the removing and replacing myself and charged 100$/hour for my work. The undesirable character's insurance paid up with no questions asked. She paid the excess only I suppose, but I bet her insurance premium promptly went up.

    Hi,

The insurance company called me and told me that they cannot fix the car because they can't find another bumper. Based on the last known price for a bumper, the panelbeater's labour and 2 indicator lenses, the quote worked out at just over $3000.00.

They will now pay me the $3k and I must take the car. If I find a bumper 6 months down the line I have the money for the repairs. There is a lot of pros and cons in this settlement.

For me it is okay because I have already made the 2 broken brackets that fits onto the car (the bumper isn't broken at all) from aluminium, it was made from some plasticky polisomething. It cost me 2 hours after dinner on Thursday eve and now I have some money spare to get the indicator lenses that are priced at around 18 euros each.

Seeing it in a different way, the car has cost me only $2000 now. If I were an administration guy that didn't have the ability to fix the car then I think I would have been upset by this arrangement they have. I won't fight the decision because I'm sure the insurance companies have been through this type of scenario a few times and somewhere you will find a clause that puts them on the winning horse.

    Regards, Frans.

Not in this case, and especially if the culprit has admitted full responsibility, which I take it she did. That is because you were a stationary object (which in the eyes of the law equates you to say a tree, or a lamp post, so you can't be blamed for anything).

That is not to say it is easy to get money out of insurance companies. They'll try everything you can think of and then some. Threaten with court and they settle. But you must be really determined, to the point that you launch court proceedings. When they receive the order to be in court on such and such date, they know you're not kidding and I expect they'll call you and give you everything you want on the spot just to keep out of court. That's how I did it on a couple of times.

But it's not funny, so I can see why people don't do it.

You are right, you got some money out of them and you can fix your car. Hopefully this won't happen again.

    Happy motoring!
