Default Renault 10S Tacho wiring ??

    Hi Guys.
BARNIE (1963 R8) has a R10S dashboard fitted. I pulled out the Tacho to clean the 3 terminals on the bottom and accidentally disturbed the position of the wiring at the back. I know there was a grey wire that was fitted to left hand rear side (viewed from the back) but the other two wires on the right I'm not which goes where!!

Anybody out there might have the answer to which/where the other two wires that go into the Tacho go to/come from??

Failing that. What about a wiring diagram picture of a R10S dash board wiring ??

take a look what I'm up against!! See Attached.

    Thanks Guys

    Phil

Hmm. One for the light? Presumably and easy to check.

One to the coil? Must be.

One to earth or from positive? Not sure.

It's a standard Oz VDO unit, so you might find out online quite easily.

    Good luck.

The back of the tacho will be marked what the terminals are for so should be self explanatory there.

You will need to work out where the wires went, so you will need a multimeter to work out what the wires do.

    One will go to ground,

Another will have 12v on it when the ignition is turned on.

The last wire will go to the points side of the coil.

    Hope this helps.

I have some more info for you Phil.

I have s few VDO tachos here, the ones I have came out of early 70's R12's but should be similar and these have the wires attached still.

If you look carefully you will also see the colours stamped on the back of the tacho.

The ones I have have a pink (+12v) wire going to the terminal that is on its own and a lemon wire (points side of coil) going to the centre terminal.

The left on looks to be the ground terminal (-) when measured with a mutimeter I got 2 ohms between it and the case of the tacho.

    Hope this helps .

    Cols right
The plastic that surrounds the terminals has clear marks
When viewed from the back left reads +12, the middle right reads 1 and the right is -ve and is earthed with the black wire

The tachos that I have here its not on the plastic insulator but stamped on the casing of the tacho.

The tachos I have here are from an R12 not a R10S but the look the same as in the pics that Putuguq has posted.

    Yeah
Thanks so much for the replies especially 'putuguq and Col'

Between the two of you, you have convinced me that I have the negative Coil wire and the Earth ass about!

Looking closely at the photos 'putuguq' sent me you can see a short EARTH wire right on the end of the two close together, so tomorrow I'll change them over and hopefully the tacho will work WHEN I start the engine for the first time, some months away yet!!

What I forgot to say whoever wired this only had blue and green wire colours so I have 6 positive wires GREEN and all the rest BLUE !! Wish me luck, I'm at screaming pitch !!! Ha Ha ha
    Thanks again
    Cheers
    Phil

You could hook it up to another engine and test it too...…
