No problem Peter, glad to hear you like it. Milton's car wasn't a Gordini, my car is a Gordini, but his was a 56 Dauphine. Liam

Thanks for pics Liam. The Dauph is very nice, but the racing 4CV was very nice as well. It must have been slow going towing with the Dauph, but if it was just short distance would have been OK.

    Nice,

Yeah it would have been slower but with the hot engine it did have some go, and he took the 3 speed dauphine gearbox out and put in a 4 speed Gordini box. He did trial rallies in it with 13 inch widde wheels on the back with rally tires, so it was a quick little car. Liam

Yeah I'm a mad Renault collector, I've got heaps of stuff from the Geelong Renault Car Club, which my Grandfather started, my room is buried with magazines and memorabilia from the 60s, 70s. Not many kids my age like watching bob watson's rallycross.

Thanks for sharing Liam, these photos are fabulous

One of my Dauphine Gordini's used to have a towbar on it. I'd never dream of towing another car with it Looks cool though with the 4CV behind it, a bit like the Estafette all covered in Renault livery towing an R8 Gordini on a car trailer

It's not so much the power to pull the laden trailer but the brakes to stop it.
Can't tell from the photographs but it doesn't look like there are trailer brakes.
The car trailer plus 4CV would probably weigh nearly the same or more than the Dauphine.
It would be interesting going down hill and having to brake.
Probably not a lot of compression braking available either, even if the Dauphine has a larger motor transplanted.

Yeah they do get people talking about the old days, the red Dauphine pics are of my Grandfathers car, people say that it was a quick little car in the trials and motorkhanas.

I think he modified austin healey wheels so they would fit the 3 stud bolt pattern, and I'm not sure of how much they would be worth.

Interesting. It has radiator hoses attached - might it be a heat-exchange oil cooler using the coolant?

It is a standard after market Ryco oil filter which mounted on a bracket and had oil hoses in and out. The radiator hose is just an optical illusion and it just goes to the bottom of the radiator. I had several of these filters but cut one up for some thing else and just kept one for future use. Probably on my 4 CV if I ever get back to it. From memory one originally came off the 4 CV as it has the oil return drilled in to the block. I have seen the oil return go into the timing cover to try and minimise the wear on the timing gears.

Thanks Rob. that makes complete sense - a bypass filter has to be better than no filter, although Repco's view was that anything but a full flow filter was a waste of space. I've never had a timing gear problem but plenty of oil changes since 1970 is probably the key to that issue.

It reminds me of a Fram filter with a toilet roll - somewhere I've a photo of one in a 4CV with similar plumbing.

Funny how photos can give odd perspectives!

    Cheers
