    Default red r12 mystery car

There was a Renault Round-up back in 1999 and at that show there was a red Renault 12 with white Gordini strips, now unconfirmed that car is the ex Bob Watson rallycross car, it has the same wheels and the guards are slightly flared. That was the last time it was seen. Could anyone shed some more light on this car. cheers Liam Nuske

Rallycross cars lead a rough life and are generally scrapped more often than returned to the road. They were also often stripped and highly modified.
It’s more likely parts like wheels etc may have been swapped across over time.

That is true, but ive been told that a guy still has that car sitting somewhere in Australia. Back when it did rallycross it had a supercharged r16ts engine, also i was told that it was built out here for rallycross, and rallying which is why it doesn't have the r12 Gordini bonnet scoop.Liam Nuske

I believe that car was knicknamed the Jaffa because it was red on the outside with a chocolate brown interior. At the time of the photo i believe it was owned by Mike Garafilis. I don't know where it went after Mike sold it.

No Andrew that's not the Jaffa. That was a series 2 1.4 shell with all G running gear. The jaffa was sold to Chris Jones to use as a 12G replica in historic events but it had a little two much rust and being a 1.4 shell it wasn't period correct so we transplanted it into a 70 shell and that's at Chris's place. The car Liam in taking about is the real deal, it is the rallycross car now running a 17G injected motor. Part of a certain collection that we don't talk about anymore.

My Grandfathers (Milton) Dauphine was striped of all the good parts and then sold to his neighbours across the road from him, and later on it was sent the wreckers.

You sure that photo was taken in '99? I remember working on that when it went onto those plates and got those stripes and would place it as later than that... or maybe I'm just older than I thought I was!
